Confused and surprised

Mark was rather confused on why his father had asked him to come over, and why he asked him to come over alone. He was sure he needed time to mope around before getting back on his feet, but in the phone call, his dad was rather chipper. Pulling into his former driveway, Mark walked to the door and rang the doorbell.

The door opens, and Mark so immediately taken into a bear hug by his father. “Mark! It’s good to see you son”, his father exclaims. “How have you been.”

“You mean besides being laid off from my first job? Fine I guess?” Mark was taken aback by his father’s chipper attitude.

“Great, great”, Frank said as he usurped his son inside. “Cna I get you anything? Tea?juice? Coffee?”

“Uh…no thanks”, Mark said still a bit weirded out. “There was something you wanted to talk to me about in person?”

Make fathers face changed from a chipper expression to a more stern one. “Yes, of course. We schooled probably head downstairs.”

“Why”, Mark asked even more confused. “You guys don’t keep anything down there.”

“Well, that’s not entirely true. Come one, let me explain.”

The two soon head downstairs to the basement, to the forbidden door Mark his entire life had been told to never open.

“Listen son”, Frank said placing a hand on his son’s shoulder. “There’s something you ought to know about the men in our family. A secret so to speak, the men of our family can control time and control minds.”

Mark blinked a couple of times before going wide eyed. “You mean my abilities are genetic?”

“Abilities”, Frank says, his turn to be surprised. “You mean you already knew?”

“Uh yeah, I discovered them almost a year ago”, Mark said sheepishly. “Regina discovered hers a few months ago.”

“Wait your sister has powers too? I have never heard about women in our family inheriting the power.”

“Uh yeah, don’t know if Ashley had them or not, she did spend most of the past year frozen in time.”

“So she wasn’t in Costa Rica?”

“Uh no”, Mark said, regretting having mentioned that. “She’s been in the house, in the back of my closet.” He expected his father to lash out at him for this stunt, but this never came to pass, instead a look of wonder was on his fathers face.

“Look son”, Frank said. “I’m not mad, and I’m not a cop any more, so I can’t arrest you for this. I just…I just need to know something. Do you you have a collection of trophies?”

“A collection of…trophies?”

“Frozen women.”

“Oh”, Mark said surprised. I call the, dolls. Yeah I do. Well half of it is mine, the other half is Katie’s.”

“Oh that’s a much better name.”, Frank said somewhat jealous. “You brought her in on this?”

“Yeah, she was the only one I trusted enough to talk about this.”

“Wow…wow..wow…wow”, Frank said, laughing as he did so.

“So, you can stop time as well”, Mark asked his father.

“Yup, and can control minds. You should be able to as well, and I guess Regina too.”

“Wool, Mark said flabbergasted.

“How about this”, Frank said. “How about I show you my collection, and you can show me yours.”

Mark blinked a few times. “You have a collection?"

"Yup, all behind the door you were told to never enter. Welcome mark…to the trophy room", his father said as he opened the forbidden door,
