Breakfast.

"Good morning, everyone!" Kaylee cheered when the rest of the crew finally arrived in the dining hall. "Breakfast is ready!"

"It smells great, Kaylee!" Jonathan complimented. "Do you need a hand with anything?"

"Sure, if you don't mind bringing the bowls of congee over to the table," the chef smiled.

"You made you tiao?" he asked.

"I fried them!" Angela chirped, carrying a plates of long stick-shaped Chinese doughnuts over to the dining table.

"This is like what my mom made for me," Cindy noted, looking at all the Chinese dishes Kaylee had prepared.

"Thanks for the compliment!" Kaylee smiled as she brought the last of the dumplings over.

"Thank you, Kaylee!" the entire crew said in unison.

"You're welcome," Kaylee smiled proudly. "Everyone eat!"

"This is much better than pancakes, French toast, eggs, and bacon!" Zoe chirped with a mouthful of dumplings. "No offense, Jon!"

"None taken!" Jonathan chuckled. "I actually concur with your statement. I rather have Kaylee cook than me!"

"Well, I can offer cooking classes to anyone interested to be a better cook," Kaylee offered.

"But we have you!" Allison said.

"Only for the next two years and after that you're on your own again!" Kaylee laughed. "Let me guess... take out and ramen?"

"Hey! That hurts!" exasperated the mechanical engineer as she sighed heavily.

"The truth hurts, huh?" Eva giggled. "Don't worry I'm sure that diet applies to half of us here!"

"Not us!" the triplets retorted in unison.

"Maybe that's why I have to exercise regularly," Jonathan chuckled, spooning a mouthful of congee into his mouth. "I definitely need to eat better..."

"Are we going to eat this every day?" Ming Yue wondered. "Not that I'm complaining!"

"No, I plan to change the menu every day depending on what I feel like and what we have for ingredients," Kaylee answered. "Of course, fresh fruits will be used up soon."

"You should come down and visit the farm later today," Eva suggested.

"I would love to," Kaylee replied with a knowing smirk.

"So what's for lunch?" Jonathan inquired, taking an entire dumpling into his mouth and chewing on it.

"It'll be a delightful surprise!" Kaylee giggled with a wink.

"Did everyone complete their daily log for yesterday?" Lauren reminded everyone when the last pieces of the dishes were being consumed. Everyone but Jonathan nodded. "I'm sure you were too busy sleeping last night, Jon. You can write it and send it to Hane and me later this morning."

"Yes, of course," Jonathan nodded, giving a quick subtle glance at Hane as he stood up and helped clear the table. "Thanks for making us breakfast, Kaylee!"

The rest of the group concurred.

"No problem, it's literally my job!" Kaylee giggled while she started putting the plates and bowls into the dishwashers.

"I'll do the dishes, Kaylee," Jonathan offered. "You've done enough already."

"Are you sure? Thank you!" she smiled and looked back at Eva. "I guess I can go down and visit the farm to get ingredients for lunch."

"Do you need help, Jon?" Cindy asked, standing next to Jonathan as he loaded the dishwashers.

"Nah, it's okay, I'm almost done," he answered. "What's up?"

"Not much," she shrugged, glancing over to the rest of the women heading out of the dining hall to the elevator. "I just want to see how you're doing." She gave him a longing look and smiled.

"I'm great after a much need sleep last night," he replied, avoiding looking at her as he placed the last of the plates inside the dishwasher because he did not want to take the chance of her suspecting his words were not a hundred percent truthful.

"So no more staying up forty-eight hours without sleep?" she said it as more of a statement than as a question.

"As that doctor's orders? I didn't think I had an OB/GYN before," he chuckled.

"No but as a concerned colleague and friend, Jon," she replied.

"Yes, doc!" he stated, snapping to attention and saluting her.

Cindy sighed and rolled her eyes. "I'll see you downstairs in the lab, Jon!"
