Chapter 2 by Callous Callous

The Sentence Is...

Sentence: Home And Living Assistance

"You are hereby sentenced to serve at least 6 months, but no more than 2 years in our "Home And Living Assistance" program where you will be responsible for taking care of the day-to-day household needs of our older and otherwise, lesser able male citizens in our state. You will perform any and all housekeeping, cooking, cleaning, laundry, and general assistance they might require. Should the man you are assigned complain about your work, and the court finds the complaint legitimate and valid; he can request your removal and you will be assigned to your 20 year sentence previously prescribed less the time you served in the program. Alternatively, he can also request that your time in the program be extended by 2 more months, as long as it does not make you exceed your sentence of 2 years. Should you serve over at least half your sentence, any complaints where your assignment requests your removal from the program, your remaining previously prescribed sentence of 20 years, will also be halved, and you will serve only 10 years less the amount you spent in the program."

"That's it. Court adjourned."
And with that, the Judge slammed his gavel and left the room. The bailiff stood up to prepare to escort Katie outside the room.

"Good luck." Her lawyer said, shrugging his shoulders and gathering up his papers.
"I'm sorry. I have to catch another trial starting in about an hour. They should be here soon to get you."

"They?" Katie asked, but her lawyer was already out the door.
Katie was a bit dazed and confused by everything. She looked at the bailiff who was eyeing her, waiting for her to stand up.
"Alright. Let's go, miss. We've got other places to be."
"Yes. Okay."

Katie gathered up her belongings and started to walk to the door when the bailiff grabbed her arm and started to lead her.
"Hey, There's no need to grab me." Katie said, pulling her arm away from him.
The bailiff did let her go, but didn't respond, and just continued to escort her out the door.
Katie was led outside, where a large black van was waiting. There was writing on the side: "Our Conviction To Help! Washington Home And Living Assistance!"
"That's the ride for you," the bailiff said, motioning her over to the van.

Katie reluctantly walked towards the van. As she approached, the sliding door opened and two women, dressed in matching khaki pants and pink button-down blouses, with a logo over the right pocket that matched the one on the side of the van, came out and greeted her.
"Hello. You must be Katie Thompson. It's a pleasure to meet you. My name is Lisa, and this is my sister, Jane. We are from Washington State Home And Living Assistance. Now if, you will step into the van we'll get you sorted immediately to carry out your sentence! We are very happy that you chose to take the prosecutor's deal."

"Um, well...I didn't really have a choice, I..." Katie started, but Lisa, the other, cut her off.
"Excellent. Hop on in then, and we'll get going!"

Katie sighed and reluctantly climbed into the van. The inside had 3 rows of seats, and a metal divider with a window that separated the seating area from the driver. The two women sat on either side of Katie and pulled the door shut behind them.

Then...
