A History of pokeGirls

WILLIAM WINTHROPE

Coming to his senses after emptying himself, William quickly grabbed some loose rags and helped Kate clean herself up. After making sure that she was restored to her normal self, William did a check-up on himself, wiping away some excess fluids that were left behind.

Getting his mind in order, and of course dressing himself, William exited out of the tent a few minutes after Eli had, taking in the scene change he had missed while inside his tent. Jameson and Eli had both set up their tents, forming a triangle with his own. In the center of all three was a small fire, the only source of light in the dark forest now that the sun had disappeared over the horizon, the moon not fully out quite yet. The light of the fire splattered outward, creating ominous shadows in the trees just outside of the small clearing they had chosen to spend the night at. Both Jameson and Eli had dragged small logs around the fire to use a make-shift chairs, huddled around the fire, creating shadows of their own, splayed out across their respective tents.

Perilla was in her humanoid form, sat close to Jameson, her head resting on his shoulder as they all sat in silence. The Master and pokeGirl were staring aimlessly into the fire, as if enchanted by the flames as they danced, while Eli was busy digging through his belongings, obviously looking for something. Perilla was the first to notice William’s appearance through the use of her superhuman senses. The worrying thought crossed William’s mind that she could probably hear what had just occurred inside his tent, but he chose to hold onto some hope that she didn’t, or at the very least wouldn’t mention it.

“There he is!” She said, giving him a knowing smile, confirming his fears, “We thought you might have fallen asleep already.”

“Not quite yet,” William said, dragging over a small log of his own and plopped down. “That bastard over there said you want to talk to me,” addressing Jameson.

“I wanted to hear about that fancy school of yours, maybe you can share some secrets they are handing out up there to an old timer like me,” Jameson said, looking much better from the last time William saw him, transforming from his drunken state to be a real human again.

William nodded to himself, realizing that many of the people in Colsten probably didn’t keep up with the latest news around the world. “Anything specific?” He asked, wanting a launch point to start off his news dump.

“I don’t know lad, anything that might be interesting. Got anything about the old lady?” He asked, throwing a smile at Perilla.

“Hmmm,” William mused over his question, trying to recall some of his classes he had taken over the last few years. “Somebody discovered a new family of pokeGirls, a Spectral as they’re calling it. Apparently it was some small transparent being, it didn’t do a whole lot other than float around its master once she was tamed though. I think they are still doing tests with it to determine what skills she might have, but in any case that brings the total up to 6 families: Aqua, Gemme, Nature, Flamma, Draconian, and Spectral.”

The families were listed in order of increasing rarity, with the exception of Spectral. Although it was only recently discovered, there was no real way to know how common they were throughout the world, but it was assumed that they were quite rare having been for so long. Their names corresponded with the pokeGirls affinity to skills: Aqua had an affinity for water, Flamma for fire, Nature for plants and earth, Gemme for stone and rock, Draconian for reptilians, and Spectral for dark and ghastly skills.

“One of my professors also discovered the cause of the rise of Gen 2 pokeGirls,” William continued on, “Woman are infected by an original pokeGirl may have a conflicting nature to that of the original pokeGirl, causing her to result in a pokeGirl with two different affinities.”

William paused, taking a gauge of Jameson’s obviously confused face. Jameson took his pause to jump in, asking William. “They know what causes pokeGirl transformation?” Taken aback by this information, troubled by this news.

It was William’s turn to be confused. The information of the spread of pokeGirl transformation has been around for several years now. Either Jameson was too drunk over the past couple years to remember, or Colsten was truly stuck several years behind the rest of the Kingdom.

“Yea, it has been known for quite some time now,” William finally said, deciding to start from the beginning, “There are a few types of pokeGirls. The first is the Original pokeGirls, or feral pokeGirls. They are akin to wild animals without a humanoid form, and impossible to tame or train. The second type are Wild pokeGirls. They are women, or in some rare cases men, that have been infected by some disease that Originals spread, transforming their bodies and causing them to lose their higher human functions, most prominently their logic and reason. It is the modern theory that this is the way Originals reproduce, as the whole species is made up of women, it is impossible to reproduce sexually. There are two ways to tame these wild pokeGirls, and return their higher mental functions: Utilize a bond that was previously established before the transformation,” he nodded at Perilla, assuming that’s how Jameson tamed her, “Or dominate her thoroughly enough to form that bond. The finally type is the rarest of the three: a Dungeon pokeGirl. A Dungeon pokeGirl can be either a Wild or an Original, it doesn’t matter. It is simply a pokeGirl powerful enough to form a structure around her, creating a domain that she rules over.”

During his speech, William noticed that Eli had slowed his hunt through his bags, still pretending to be searching but clearly paying attention to the information that he was sharing. Kate had also appeared in the middle of his diatribe, sneaking out of the back of the tent to avoid suspicion. She had been listening attentively, curious of how such a vital part of their world worked. Jameson on the other hand looked even more confused after his explanation. It was a wonder he managed to tame Perilla at all at this point, not even grasping the basics of how pokeGirls operated.

“Perhaps we should leave this conversation here for tonight, it seems I gave you plenty to think about,” William said, concluding his impromptu lesson, “We should focus on getting Kate’s mom back.”

Eli chose this moment to speak up, saying “Yea, enough with your nerd shit Pip. You ever figure out why they took your mom?” He asked, turning to Kate.

“I’m not really sure. My dad thought that the men that took her were slavers, but even he didn’t know for sure. He said the robes were vaguely familiar to him but couldn’t quite place them.” Kate stated, offering up any information she had on their men they were hunting.

“In any case, we will find out when we catch up to them.” Perilla chimed in, “I’ve picked up their scent all the way in Nollemburg, so they are at least a week ahead of us. We should get an early start in the morning to make up ground on them.”

That seemed to remind the group of the time, the moon now hung high above them. William agreed and stood, kicking some dirt onto the fire, putting it out and shrouding the campsite in darkness, only the moon shining light down to offer their eyes assistance. With that, everyone returned to their tents for the night, William and Kate snuggled together to end the first night on the road.
