At the Wedding Pt 24

"PWBI! EVERYONE REMAIN WHERE YOU ARE! CEASE AND DESIST ALL ACTIVITY!" The remains of the devastated and dilapidated arena started swarming with PWBI agents, response teams, investigators and local LEOs.

"Who are they?" Penny asked.

Walt rolled his eyes. "The cavalry. The late kind as per usual." He laughed as a Batman, as usual, tried to be first to do anything only to get literally tossed on his ass by a swarm of cherry blossoms courtesy of Senko's divine protection.

The Batman tried scowling only to ruin it by sneezing much to Walt's delight. "Lower the barrier... now."

Walt ignored him turning back to his friends. "Everyone okay?"

Daisy nodded. "Everybody is fine. I'll go get Charles." She moved away.

"Only minor injuries!" Curie called out.

Walt smiled. "We'll get them out first once we're sure the area is actually secure and the threat eliminated. I don't see waves of these things coming anymore so Jimbo likely stopped the problem before these clowns showed up-"

"I said lower the barrier... NOW!" The Batman snapped.

"No," said Walt calmly.

The Batman narrowed his eyes. "I don't know who you think you are but I'm-"

"No," Walt interrupted him now. "You don't but I'll explain the situation to you. We're private citizens who just repelled an incursion attack on private property before you all showed up. As is our legal rights here abouts as per the Castle doctrine in these parts as yall are no doubt aware. Yall also fall into the category of intruders, law agents or not, and my duty is to the defense and protection of those here until I can verify with the properties owner how he wishes to receive you. Until then our defenses of ourselves and our loved ones are paramount and are still in our hands as this could all be another elaborate trick by the perpetrators of this aggression."

The Batman fumed but didn't say anything. Walt smirked. That meant he was correct and they both knew it. He thought about giving this Bruce even more of a hardtime but he saw Carrie Kelly rolling her eyes as she started walking their way.

Walt couldn't help smiling a bit seeing her. He wondered what costume she was wearing beneath her trench coat... and immediately tried and failed to not picture her wearing anything beneath it at all. It was a nice mental picture. But seeing them both here he could guess. It had to do with their investigation of James.

"Mr Stark here is absolutely correct," Carrie said flashing her credentials from her pocket. "As a law abiding citizen and in the interest of cooperation could we ask you to bring forth the owner so we can do this all properly?" She gave The Batman a hard look.

Walt smiled. "They're on their way now- ah! Speak of the devil here he is." He gestured as a pair of Corgis stepped forward.

"They're dogs," The Batman stated.

Carrie barely managed hide her smile as Walt tilted his hat and whistled lowly. "You know I do believe your correct? That must be why you're the detective!" There were a bunch of laughs behind them.

The Batman frowned. "Are you joking with me?"

Walt shook his head. "Nope. Transformation. He's normally a gem of a human being for what it's worth."

Carrie cleared her throat. "Might we inquire which one is the properties owner?"

Walt nodded. "Certainly. The one with the mustache." He helpfully told them.

The Batman kneeled down. One of the corgis did indeed have a mustachioed marking on its muzzle. "Charles Gardner?"

Corgi-Charles said, "Arf!" His butt wiggling.

Carrie covered up a giggle with a pretend cough as The Batman looked up questioningly.

"He said, "Yes"," Walt offered helpfully.

The Batman sighed producing his credentials. "Mr Gardner we're from the Prime Worlds Bureau of Investigation amongst other law enforcement agencies. Could we ask you to lower your defenses and ask for your guests immediate cooperation?"

Corgi-Charles tilted his head in thought. "Arf," he finally said and then turned to Walt. "Bark."

Walt nodded but asked, "You're sure, Chuck? It's your show. I'll follow your lead."

Corgi-Charles nodded his head letting his tongue hang out in a canine grin. He was looking forward to giving a statement like this. What a riot!

Walt nodded too. "Alright. Sit tight a moment while I negotiate with and placate the Goddess who just put the darn thing up and ask her nicely to take it back down." He jumped down from the pile of bodies and rubble like a modern day barbarian blades in hand still surrounded by heart shapped "smoke" to go find Senko.

The Batman frowned. "That's him from your report?"

Carrie nodded. "That's him. Walter Stark."

The Batman narrowed his eyes. "I don't like him."

Carrie snorted. "Of course you don't. He feels the same way I'd wager... you're both too similar yet different from one another. Leave Stark to me. Gardner's are yours. We ain't got all night for you two to get into a dick measuring contest!" She started walking away and said, "Besides he's definitely not a suspect in the Gardner thing. He's a big gaurdian angel if anything. The scary kind," before quietly adding, "and you'd lose that contest, Bruce..."

The Batman frowned... but she was right. Focus on the job at hand. One case file at a time...
