A day in the life of Hanna
A day in the life of Hanna
(Hanna POV)
Hanna was in a good mood this morning. She'd slept well, perhaps because she'd had the bed to herself. In any case, she probably wouldn't dare mention it to Abigail. The doyenne of the group had been so kind to her, she wasn't going to blame her for moving around in her sleep.
She had no plans for today, which was fine. Her date with Leo was over and she didn't want to think about it anymore. Nor did she want to think about tomorrow, when the first test would take place with the risk of elimination. No, stop. She didn't want to think about that. Worrying would spoil her day. Maybe she should take another pill for the day; she'd enjoyed her date with Leo as long as she was on the pill. No, she shouldn't if she was wasting her BP now, she wouldn't be able to buy the permanent version.
But did she really want the permanent version? She hesitated. In a way, yes, but at the same time, she didn't want to change herself that much. She'd have to discuss it with the others, but would she be able to?
In any case, she got dressed and was the first to arrive at breakfast, although it didn't take long for the others to join her. Jessica asked him to pass her the jar of jam. Of course, she couldn't help insulting her a little in the process, but it didn't matter. Hanna had begun to get used to Jessica's strong character.
Leo arrived with Abigail and disappeared almost as quickly as he had arrived with Blanche. She hadn't really taken the time to talk to him since their date. Would it be like this all the time, one little moment when she could talk to him and the rest when he was never around?
"I hope you all had a good day yesterday. I suggest we spend the day together and have a chat. I've been talking to Leo, and I think we should think together about what our personal and collective goals are," proposed Abigail.
Hanna didn't hesitate for long; she needed advice and Abigail had already helped her a lot.
"I accept." said Hanna loud enough for the whole table to hear.
"I'll take part. There's not much to do on this island anyway. I hope next week will be fuller because otherwise we'll die of boredom." says Jessica.
"I think it's an interesting idea. A constructive discussion can only do us good," says Eric.
Seeing that Daphne wasn't responding, Abigail decided to address her directly.
_"Daphne, I'd like you to take part, since you were at the heart of the discussions I had with Leo." _Said Abigail.
"What for?" replied Daphne, still staring at her empty plate.
"What do you mean 'What for?" asked Abigail.
_"You're going to tell me again that I should give up, resign myself to my fate; that what I'm doing is pointless; that I should try to sleep with Leo instead; that I'm lucky because for me it'll be easy. So, what's the point in arguing? I don't want to keep hearing your sermons and I don't need your advice. I'll manage on my own. Alone," _said Daphne, rising and leaving their field of vision quickly.
There was an awkward silence for a moment. No one really knew what to say. Hanna didn't even have the slightest idea what they could say to that. Daphne was probably right. Abigail was probably going to lecture her again.
Abigail finally sat down before answering the remaining 3 people.
"I'm really sorry she feels that way. I'm only trying to help her. We're all in over our heads. We have to help each other," says Abigail.
"If she wants to scuttle herself. I don't see who we are to stop her." Says Jessica.
"I'm afraid it's not that simple," says Abigail.
"Indeed." said Eric.
"What's the problem?" asked a worried Hanna.
"The problem is Leo," said Eric.
"He won't accept Daphne being eliminated. He can accept transformations as they happen, but if it's too sudden and brutal, then..." said Abigail.
"He'll do anything," finished Eric.
"Exactly," said Abigail.
"But that's terrible," said Hanna.
"He can't be so in love with her as to be so stupid," said Jessica.
"If only." said Eric.
"I'm not willing to take that risk if I can avoid it," says Abigail.
"We've got to do something," says Hanna.
"That's what I was going to try, but you saw how she reacted," said Abigail.
"And so, we give up?" asked Hanna.
"No, but we'll talk about it later. For now, let's concentrate on the people present," said Abigail.
_"What's on your mind?" _asked Jessica.
_"I've been involved in communications for TV shows a few times in my career, so assuming this one works out a bit the same I had a few ideas." _said Abigail.
It made sense. His expertise could help them' mused Hanna.
"The audience is not an intelligent entity making complicated plans. They react to emotion. It can change its mind on a subject, but never twice. Above all, remember that the audience is sadistic. She'll always take the option that fits the participant's archetype," says Abigail.
"Interesting," commented Eric.
_"Archetype? What's that? Transformation themes?" _questioned Jessica.
"Yes and no." replied Abigail.
"You can stop talking in riddles, please." said Jessica surprising everyone for saying 'please'.
"The audience is stupid. It fails to grasp the real complexity of a human being. So, it chooses to assign a few key ideas to define each person. Together, these ideas form what we call an archetype," says Abigail.
"And this archetype is influenced by the themes of transformation," says Eric.
"That's my guess," says Abigail.
"I understand it's important, but I'm not sure what difference it makes to everything," says Jessica.
Indeed, Jessica had a point. How does it change anything for them?" thought Hanna.
"'That's what you'd think, and in a way it does. The audience isn't going to change its mind on some point no matter what we do. Blanche will remain a catgirl and Jessica's breasts won't shrink. But that doesn't mean we can't influence them," says Abigail.
"And how can we do that?" asked Hanna, who was both curious and terrified.
"All we have to do is offer the audience another archetype they can appreciate. For my part, I'll try to steer them more towards the Secretary archetype than the Maid. Otherwise, I'll try the Mother of the harem version," says Abigail.
"It's easy for you, you've got the right themes. I've got Goth, Party Girl and ****. I don't see what I can do with that," says Jessica.
"Take it the other way around. What place would you like to have in Leo's harem?" asked Eric.
It was an interesting question. What place did Hanna wish to have in Leo's harem? The question would have been absurd a week ago, given that she didn't know Leo, but now she had to find an answer.
"I wish to be at the top of this harem obviously," Jessica replied.
"Okay, but how do you want to be at the top? You want to lead, fine, but are you ready to take on the amount of work involved?" questioned Eric.
These questions seemed to unsettle Jessica enough that she couldn't think of anything to answer.
"If you want to do nothing, then the Blanche archetype is probably best," said Eric.
_"What is Blanche's archetype?" _asked Hanna.
"The pet, the catgirl," replied Abigail.
"I don't wish to be a cat," said Jessica.
Clearly Jessica didn't wish to be a catgirl and Hanna shared her opinion.
"You don't have to be a cat, I'm sure the audience will agree to a dog." said Eric.
_"I don't wish to be a pet!" _said Jessica, who was clearly starting to get annoyed.
"So, what do you want to be?" asked Eric.
Jessica, who couldn't seem to find an answer to the question, decided to respond offensively.
"What about you? What do you plan to be in your brother's harem?" said Jessica.
Hanna at least granted Jessica that the question was out there since Eric was clearly the one for whom it should be least obvious.
"I've given it a lot of thought and come up with several proposals. I still must decide which one I'll defend. Then I tell myself that the audience is likely to make that choice for me," says Eric.
And he still hadn't answered the question, Hanna remarked.
"I'd like to hear those proposals," said Abigail.
Okay, Abigail seemed to have noticed that he hadn't answered and decided not to leave him without a shot like that.
"My first idea was to pursue knowledge and serve as the harem librarian, cataloging all souvenir activities and knowledge and offering my knowledge to those who would request it." said Eric.
_"That's not a role for a harem, that," _said Jessica, and Hanna could hardly agree with her. This was in no way sexy or kinky like this show.
"My second idea was to go on the magical or divine side and bring curse, spell and blessing to the harem," said Eric.
_"And you think you'll stay a man by becoming a witch?" _says Jessica.
_"My third and final idea was indeed to abandon my masculinity and go into sexual exploration, discovering everything, testing everything related to sex." _says Eric.
Everyone was stunned by this last proposal.
