No (But You’re Lying)

« No, Not Really… I don’t think so. » You respond to her question. Emily looks at you suspiciously, unconvinced you’re telling her the truth.

« Are you sure about that Lucas? You don’t seem very confident in your answer. » She says smirking a little bit, getting the feeling that she’s catching you in a lie based on your body language and you’re trying to hide your nerves a bit.

« I mean, I don’t really feel nervous or anything, to be honest. » She looks at you skeptically, becoming only more confident in your assumption that you’re trying to hide the true answer.

« On a scale of 1-10 how nervous does talking to me make you feel. Really. » Emily Asks not quite in a demanding tone but clearly serious enough you can tell she wants an answer and it’s not rhetorical.

« I mean, it’s kinda hard to put a number on it. A two or three I guess maybe? » You say as Emily laughs clearly not believing your answer at all. You look at her a bit worried, but she just smiles back at you. It’s not quite a smirk but it’s not like a beaming happy smile either. More like a mischievous grin. She definitely can tell you’re lying at this point.

« I appreciate the effort to try and pretend like talking to me doesn’t make you uncomfortable but I know it does. You probably have never had a girlfriend or anything before I’m sure. If you’re not comfortable with initiating and taking the lead you can just say it ya know. » Emily teases a little bit, responding in a joking manner.

« How did you know I’ve never had a girlfriend before? How is that even relevant? » You ask her coming off a little bit frustrated but she knows that it’s just you feeling defensive and you’re not actually trying to be aggressive with your tone at all.

« I can tell by the way you react to things, the way you do things… The way I make you nervous still almost like I’m you’re middle school crush and you don’t know what to do or say yet… You’re just new to the whole thing. The inexperience shows. Honestly, I think part of it is that you’re probably not used to having to talk to girls like this and most of the time they’re trying to come up to you being the sports star and all that stuff. I honestly think that kind of stuff hurts people more than helps them. Though admittedly I did learn a bit from those experiences too so it can go both ways. » Emily explains.

How do you respond to the insinuation that you’re new to the whole talking to girls thing?

Choices: A- Eyeroll and Shake it off before you cut off the convo and change the subject. B- Admit you have zero idea what you’re doing and she’s the first attractive girl you’ve hung out with one on one like this. C- Ask her how you can prove you don’t struggle with talking to her. D- Change the topic and ask about her experiences she quickly mentioned. E- Be honest that she’s right, Ask for her advice and tell her you’re working on it while clarifying it’s not really a problem so much as a « weakness ».
