You believe this is a video game. You wonder about the email being dated 20XX instead of the actual year it is but you assume that the game is set in some near future. The game actually seems pretty similar to Devil Busters. It started off as a trilogy of books in the 80s and it got adapted into a couple of video games before being remade as Shin Devil Busters and becoming a massive franchise that spawned the Innocent Sin spinoff series.
