No Looking Back
On Monday, Elizabeth filed her divorce paperwork. On Tuesday, she was in the hospital. Beside her was Moses, holding her hand. She was grateful for the support, really. When the twins were born, it felt like Douglas spent half the time in the hallway talking about cases. But here was Moses, coaching her through birth of a child that had none of his blood in her.
"C'mon, baby, breathe ..." Moses said. "One, two, three, push." Elizabeth pushed, grunting loudly. Almost there.
"Keep it coming, keep it coming," Moses said. She gripped his hand tightly, with the strength that only a woman that pregnant can manifest. He leaned down to her ear.
"Next one is going to have to be a few shades darker," he said. "Now PUSH!"
Elizabeth grunted again, and then she heard the cry of a newborn baby. Of her daughter Katie. She looked up at Moses, smiling. He was her man now. There was no looking back.
