Where should she focus on improving?

Her Moves

“My suggestion is that you should focus on your moves. Be deliberate in every action. For example, when you lift your right arm to take off your first glove you should have precise control of your shoulder, your elbow, your wrist, and your fingers. Not to mention your neck and the expression on your face. Break down each movement to find which parts of your body are involved. Then practise those movements over and over.”

“That sounds like a lot of thinking just to take off a glove, Connor.”

You shake your head.

“The idea is to do all that thinking now in rehearsal. And to lock it in with repetition. When the song starts you won’t have time to consider each little thing. You know what it’s like to train your body so that it moves almost by instinct, right?”

“Yeah, sure.”

“Well you can apply the same techniques you used for pole vault and jumping hurdles. Practise enough and it will come naturally. That’s what makes it a dance!”

“I was always better at high jump than pole vault...” she says slightly under her breath.

“But you were still better at them all after practising for years than you were when you started. Right?”

“True. But I don’t have years, I have a week.”

“Then why are we talking when you could be taking off your clothes?”

{if benefits=true}”Not the first time I’ve heard you say that.”{else}“Why do I get the impression I’m not the first woman you’ve said that too?”{endif}

You decline to comment and instead get Liz back to work breaking down her movements into smaller, more detailed pieces.

Another week goes by
