Does the interrogation go well?

Honestly bullshitting his way through.

Chapter 268 by Sexdream Sexdream

Kazuma sat in the interrogation room after Sena had retrieved him from his cell. He looked around, noting it was similar to a police procedure. Ria of course was invisibly to all but Kazuma floating behind Sena. "Before we get started, do you know what this is?" Sena asked gesturing towards the bell Ria had

Taken aback, Kazuma knew he couldn't lie about it, but it might look suspicious if he knew about it beforehand, so quickly thought up a solution. "Um... A magic bell of some kind?" he asked, technically being truthful, but vague enough to not imply he was familiar with it.

"Astute of you," Sena noted, pulling up her notes, and as she explained the bell, Ria got Kazuma's attention.

"She's going to ask you where you're from, and I don't know if this magic will account for other worlds, so don't try telling her about Japan!" she told him.

Kazuma nodded, both to Ria, and to Sena as she finished her explanation as to how the bell would ring upon him telling a lie. "First, we'll establish background information..." she asserted. "Where are you from, and what were you doing before you became an Adventurer?"

"...I came into this world in Axel Town," Kazuma replied carefully, the implication of "coming into this world" being born there, but of course honestly meaning that it was essentially his landing zone when he was sent here. "As for what I was doing before becoming an Adventurer... Honestly, I was living a life of self indulgence and had no purpose..."

The bell was silent, and Sena said, "Very well, moving on... Why did you decide to become an Adventurer?" she asked before Ria could read off of the notes.

"Erm, well..." Kazuma stalled briefly, knowing the bell would go off if he acted like it was for a noble cause. "...I won't pretend to be some paragon of virtue by saying I wanted to defeat the Devil King to make the world a better place..." he hedged. "But honestly, I had to make a living somehow, and if I helped people along the way, then it's a win win, right?" Just keep being as vague as possible, while still being honest, and try not to make himself look bad, that was his best bet.

"I see," Sena shrugged, not particularly impressed, but not judging him either. That was hopefully a good sign. "Do you have any kind of grudge against the lord who's mansion you destroyed?"

...well, Kazuma certainly had a grudge NOW, after the whole being arrested, and potentially facing a disproportionate punishment for it, so he couldn't just say no, so he again went with a more elaborate, but truthful answer, "Well, when I had the coronanite transported, I didn't even know he existed, so how could I have held a grudge at the time?" Again, the bell was silent, and Ria gave him a thumbs up.

Sena was starting to look a bit doubtful, and Kazuma was internally celebrating. "Don't get cocky you moron, this could still go wrong!" Ria sniggered.

'...right, she still has more questions...' Kazuma thought.
