Chapter 187 by Jpyric Jpyric

It seems that you did well tonight.

Special job

You get a late start the next morning, as it takes a bit of extra convincing for Kenna to let you out of bed. The dragon girl is all smiles though, something that isn’t lost on the other girls at breakfast. Dakota in particular whispers in your ear at breakfast.

“I don’t know what you did for Kenna, but I’ve never seen her so happy. Good work!”

She kisses your cheek, and leaves you with a warm feeling inside. You glance at Kenna, and you have to admit, she’s practically glowing. The others are similarly bright this morning, feeding off the mood of the big half-dragon. After breakfast, you say your goodbyes, and head off to work, an extra spring in your step as well.

At the AWIO, you dive into your work, spending the morning with a pile of paperwork, getting all caught up. As you work, your mind wanders, ideas forming for the last of the girls. Sirona is a bit of a challenge, for a few reasons. First off, she’s the most obviously ‘monstrous’ of the group, with her wings, tail, and furred arms and legs, not to mention her pink eyes. Naturally, this doesn’t bother you in the slightest, but it definitely attracts attention, for better or worse.

That attention leads into the second issue. Sirona is incredibly shy. Despite opening up considerably in private, and making big strides since starting work at the cafe, she’s still very nervous in public. The negative attention that Kenna was able to ignore through pride and confidence would ruin an evening for the manticore. You ponder possibilities as you work, considering a few different options.

You’re interrupted in your thoughts by a special request, a priority assignment for a placement interview. Apparently, there’s a monster girl with special requirements, and a sponsor has been identified. The case has come to you, and you start to look through the file. It’s a bit unusual for a sponsor to be selected for a specific monster, though it does happen. In this case, the monster in question is a mermaid, which surprises you. Reading further, you see that she’s not confined to water, able to form legs as needed, which clears up a bit of your confusion. However, she’s much more comfortable when she’s able to swim, and thus this sponsor was selected, as he has access to both a pool, and a large body of water nearby.

Skimming the details, they seem like a good match regardless, but without an interview, it’s hard to say for sure. It’s a bit weird to just be handed a case like this, but it shows a level of trust in you that you appreciate. It seems that Rachel herself recommended you for this, and you don’t want to disappoint her. Pushing away from your desk, you head off to speak with the mermaid, wanting to know what she’s looking for before the potential sponsor arrives. It’s a bit of a rush, but you think you can handle things.

Should be an interesting case!
