Down and Down Into The Deep

Braun ensures you are well outfitted before taking you on your mission. Your armor is given thorough attention and your trusty sword a proper sharpening. The great Halls of Hammerdeep were even more impressive than you had heard. Dwarven craftsmanship really was unparalleled, you think quietly to yourself. Your eyes draw to the immense pillars and columns through the chasmic depths, artistically beautiful to behold as they are structurally required to support such a space. Massive banners hang in the empty spaces, and intricate symbols are painted on the stone walls, dedicating the history of this storied clan. Being the only human in the caverns, possibly being the first one most of the dwarves have seen in years, if ever, brought a great deal of attention. The dwarves are a hearty and dedicated lot, and a sight like you wouldn't dare disrupt them from their work, but you catch a lot of eyes tracking you as walk through the city following Braun.

"What is it you need me to do exactly?" You ask the Dwarvish general.

"Help eliminate a problem" He replied cryptically "You're a soldier, you're perfect for the job"

"Sure" You reply, slightly defiant "but nearly all of you know how to fight and kill. Why me?"

"Because this is how deals are made, and because you're different. The enemy knows what to predict from us. They don't know you, and that's the advantage we need."

"Fair enough." You nod along "What exactly is the mission?"

"An earthquake long ago cut us off from a vault of considerable wealth. It took decades for us to clear through the rubble and reinforce the tunnel." Braun began "When we did open the space, we found that it had been overrun, infested. You're going to be the vanguard. Clear a path for the front line to come up behind you. If we can get into the vault, we'll be able to entrench and make a stand to wipe them out."

"Okay" You reply, concerned, "Easy day I guess."

Braun starts to laugh slightly "Boy, you and your Queen are prepared to try and take on the Intransicans. If that doesn't scare you, than this should be no problem." As he starts to leave the decorative heart of the city and down into the mining depths, you find a group of Dwarves marching in tight rows and columns behind you. They held some form of ranged weaponry you haven't seen before: a gun.

"These are some of my best soldiers Mastbreaker" Braun proclaimed loudly enough for everyone to hear you. "They'll back you up. If it's getting too dangerous, pull back. No shame in it being tactful. This is a Dwarvish problem, I'll not have human life lost solving it. Understand?"

"Absolutely."

"Good" Braun says as he pats your arm and walks off.
