Chapter 33
by Corruption
Time to duck and cover?
Not a chance
You did not even get to the door before people you had never met came up to you demanding to know about the rumors.
Some were outlandish, but you managed to pull off a bland expression and told them “Listen, if things were as bad as these rumors say, the cops will be looking into things. I’m not an expert in the law, but I think talking about what may be involved in a police investigation could get me into trouble, even if it was denounce false rumors. If I did that and didn’t denounce a rumor, you would take it to mean it’s true. As far as I know there is no investigation, but I’m playing it safe, so if anyone asks I just said two words; no comment.”
There were knowing smiles at that. Basically he had told them something was up, but he can’t talk about it because cops might be looking into things.
That morning the teachers were surprised that he handed in his homework, and it was done properly.
During the two recesses and lunch he mostly studied his schoolwork and had something to eat. One thing he did was to grab some long grass when he was alone and braid it together before weaving other bits through it, and using them for the bases of weaving still more through them flat.
