Chapter 1054 by Fiftyfiftyfifty Fiftyfiftyfifty

What do you do?

Close out the day.

It feels amazing to be in your pajamas after all that. And with such a large bed, you could roll multiple times in either direction and still not fall off. The blanket feels heavy on your sleepy body, and the pile of pillows under your head feels like a sea of clouds. With your touch, the bedside lamp ceases its magic glow, and you slowly close your eyes as the dim glow of the moon seeps through the slit of a window near the ceiling. Though of course, just as you start to drift off, you hear a slow tap against the bedroom door.

You groan and squint. "Who's out there?"

"It's me. I'm coming in." A cloak of shadows is barely visible through the opening door. It's Catherine the high vampire, who already excels as fading into the darkness, but at this hour, it's a miracle you know where she is at all. Perhaps it's another effect of your Kitty Sense. The door falls quietly shut behind her. "Ah. That's right. Mortals need sleep."

"You don't need the sass," you mumble under your breath, much too comfy and tired to even reach for your lamp. "Is something the matter?"

"No... but I appreciate the ask. Dix was going to speak with you tomorrow, but she's pretty certain she can brew a potion to wake up the queen."

"Oh. That's great news."

"Indeed. More ingredients will be needed, but this is good."

Her pale white skin is all you can see ahead near the door--almost glowing by the hint of moonlight still making its way inside. She may have caused you much distress, and a certain succubus may have caused her much in return, but the more you see of her, the more you can feel a deep sadness inside. Especially now, through the silence, you know that through these long years she's been walking the world as a vampire, she inevitably has changed.

If Dix was going to tell me anyway, Cat didn't need to come in here, late at night, just to tell me. "Did you just need someone to talk to?" you ask.

"That's ridiculous."

"I know you don't need to sleep, but you can stay here if you'd like."

"... Rest. You'll need it for the troubles ahead."

After a few moments pass of pure silence, and you start to close your eyes yet again, you hear and feel her climb onto the bed. She lays farther down, head near your knee, and that's where she remains until you drift away to sleep.
