How do we start?
Oddly Racial
I was challenging no stereotypes, I was an American traveling through Japan. While many gave me the side eyes when I told them I would be taking a few weeks off to tour Japan, no one said the quite part out-loud. No need to look into my long history of oriental girlfriends or affinity for Asian culture. They all knew my preferences.
HR knew from how I only really spoke well and confidently around the Thai new hire.
My parents knew from all the girls I brought home in high school and the friends I kept.
My best friend knew because she was one herself and I made a few passes at her.
Despite the overwhelming evidence I feigned innocence, citing a desire to be invested the culture and a friend from college I wanted to visit. Which were both legitimate reasons, but not the whole truth.
