A choice to make

"And there we have it. Any questions?" We circle around the train as Lupin goes over the mission in detail. She ends her explanations we reach the first car. At that moment, Lupin leans backwards, bumping into the shoulder of passer-by. "Whoa--"

"Excuse me." the woman continues on her way.

Lupin watches the woman leave behind a puzzled expression.

"What's the matter?" I ask.

"Hm? Oh. I just thought it was strange that I didn't notice that woman approaching. I hope my perception isn't getting dull." Lupin says.

"Hey, don't say that. You're scaring me!" Nemo says.

"You're probably just tired. Oh, yeah! I just developed a medicine that makes you cheerful. Would you like some?" Victoria asks.

"No! That sounds incredibly shady." Lupin says.

"Um... Lupin? What should I do?" I ask.

"That's right, I never told you. Your part in this plan is up to you." Lupin says.

"I get to choose?' I ask.

"Either you go with Van Helsing and Victoria and be in charge of disconnecting the rail car with the guards. Or you can come along with Nemo and Doreen and help me out. Either way, your task will be to break one of the connectors, so it's essentially the same either way." Lupin hands me a small device and a toolbox as she says this. "That's a device to break the connector. Attaching it is a bit complicated. Can you do it?"

"Who do you think trained him? It'll be a piece of cake." Nemo says.

I study the device for a while, and come to an understanding as to its workings. "Yes, it will be simple. Are you sure you want me to do it?"

"The connectors won't dislodge so easily while the train is in motion. All the weight of the cars behind hold it tight." Lupin says. "But you... In the worst-case scenario, you can use your strength to tear through the connector. That makes you the best suited for that task out of all of us. We're counting on you."

"Okay, I'll try." I say.

"We'll split into two teams. Nemo, Doreen, and myself will leave the station. Victoria and Van Helsing board the train." Lupin says.
