Chapter 4 by Felix_Griff Felix_Griff

What's your next move?

School Mandated Girlfriends?

All your life you’ve never had a “true” relationship. Sure, you’ve held hands and made out with the occasional classmate, but it’s never gone beyond that. Every girl you’ve ever gotten a date with has always declined to go on a second one, and you’ve certainly never managed to get a girl into your bedroom. Your virginity is very much intact, though you’d never admit that to anyone publicly.

Riding your bike through the calm and nearly empty streets of your rural hometown, you can’t help but contemplate the powers afforded to you by your new notebook. The relationship of your dreams could be yours at any moment that you desire. All that would be needed is to begin writing. Any girl from your school could be yours right now. You could make the entire female student body into your harem if you so wished… but did you wish?

Thinking more deeply about the possibilities afforded to you, you can’t help but be somewhat uninterested in the idea of a massive school-sized harem. The idea of simply having a proper relationship with a single girl sounds far more fun and appealing to you currently.

As you continue to ride back towards your home, you get a message from a friend. Pulling your phone out of your back pocket, you see that your friend Max is the one messaging you. Max is one of the many “nerds” in your friend group, though he can be differentiated by the fact that he’s FAR more socially awkward than you or the rest of the friend group are.

“We’re all hanging at Marston’s place today Michael, come over if you’re free and wanna game.” Max’s text states.

Thinking about hanging with your friend group today begins to make you contemplate the fact that, like you, your friends are all almost definitely virgins. They don’t have girlfriends, nor even female friends that they talk with regularly. Their chances of becoming stereotypical 30 year-old virgins are terrifyingly high. If you intend to use this notebook to improve your own current sex life, then surely it’s your responsibility to do the same for your friends. Max, Marston, Preston, Zay, and even annoying little Carmon all deserve a reward for being such good friends to you all these years.

After arriving back at your house and safely locking up your bike, you find a seat in the garden outside where you quickly pull out your new notebook and begin thinking of ways to help not only yourself, but all those in the same situation as you.

Suddenly, after much contemplation, the solution presents itself to you like it was obvious from the very beginning. The trouble here is the “dating”, so… why not just abolish dating!?

You quickly begin jotting down your idea in the notebook, excited to see the smiles on your friends' faces later this week when you all get to profit from the results of your new rules for the world.

Old Rule: Dating, as a concept, was abandoned long, long ago. Instead of spending time looking for a romantic partner you “like”, your partner is always simply chosen for you. Romantic partners are chosen in a number of different ways throughout the world.

Old Rule: In most English-speaking countries it is customary for your romantic partner to be chosen for you during your High School years. High Schools hold a grand randomized lottery where male and female students pull names out of a box until all the students are paired off evenly with each other.

Old Rule: Once your romantic partner is chosen for you, there is no way to change who you have been given and they are your only option for marriage and procreation. You may not “break up” with them, once assigned they are forever your romantic partner.

Old Rule: The randomized lottery system is seen as the only sensible way to decide romantic relationships, with “dating” and “picking a partner for yourself” being viewed as terribly silly practices of a bygone era.

Closing the notebook, happy with how your first few rules look, you quickly open your phone and begin scrolling online to see if anything has changed.

All comments, questions, and suggestions are heard and appreciated.

What do you see?
