To the office, of course

You start your very first day at your new position and you decide to schedule it right away. You debated starting a week later and the company was even the one to suggest it so you can have time to move in. You want to make a strong impression about your work ethic and your willingness to put the company first. Just because you've sidetracked your career advancement doesn't mean you've abandoned it. And, besides, you love to work and you're excited about the company you've joined and can't wait to learn their business.

The company you work with now, J.J. Morris, Inc., is a much smaller company than where you used to work. It's not a mom and pop shop, but it's not a monolithic corporation with hundreds of employees. It has two locations: one in downtown Braxton and the original in the commercial and industrial area on the outskirts. Today, you are going to the one in downtown Braxton. This is a newer building in the center of the busiest part of Braxton. This is the financial and business brain of J.J. Morris. The other location is the heart of J.J. Morris. That location is where the products are actually produced and, as mentioned, where the company started.

You've met J.J. Morris Jr., Son of the founder, he's way more laid back than you expect a businessman of his level of success to be. He only cares that the work gets done, not how it's done, not that it follows some arbitrary business tradition. He's the kind of guy that would let you come to the office naked if it helped you be more productive.

You take the train from your house to downtown and on the ride over you already start working on learning who the company's key distributors and target market are. You are writing up some documents for your own reference on your laptop. You haven't even started work yet and you've already started working.

The train reaches the end of the line and you get off and walk the 5 minutes to the office building. You walk into the lobby, greet the young receptionist and head over to the office of your senior. You don't think of him as your boss but as your competitor for the position above him.
