Someone interrupts her before she can aim

“There you are, Reese!”

Ruby jumped and immediately stashed the remote into her pocket. Normally, she wouldn’t have reacted to that name, but the life she was living did. Before Ruby had a chance to even think, instinct took over and she turned around. A fierce girl with a dark complexion, platinum blonde hair and olive green eyes stood before her. She was wearing a yellow robe with only one wide, loose fitting sleeve over a black tube top. She also has black pants and shoes and a red sash embroidered with a white "endless knot" on it. Bandages wrapped parts of both her arms.

“I was just…” Ruby trailed off trying to think of an excuse. The life she was living was also in the same boat. It must be a normal occurrence for her to wander off.

“Looking around and got distracted.” The girl rolled her eyes and grabbed Ruby’s sleeve. “Come on, your weapon is ready. How you jammed it that badly is beyond me.”

Ruby’s eyes started sparkling at her words, wondering what kind of amazing weapon the girl, Reese, who she was currently occupying the life of, had. Memories Ruby was sure wasn’t hers suddenly flash through her mind like she was watching a TV show. She saw herself riding the coolest thing ever, a green hoverboard. It could be thrown, used to smash enemies, and even split apart into two pistols for range attacks. It wasn’t as impressive as her scythe, but she would still love to examine it up close and personal. The reason it broke was Reese had been trying to see how high she could go off a ramp and caused some damage on the landing. The only reason Reese hadn’t repaired it herself was timing issues with them arriving in Vale.

She had lied to her team leader, the girl in front of her, how it happened.

Ruby instinctively knew Arslan was her name thanks to the remote’s power.

“You need to make sure it’s fully functional,” Arslan continued. “We can’t have your weapon malfunction during the tournament.”

“I totally get it,” Ruby agreed surprised at her language. “Don’t worry, Arslan. I heard that guy was top notch. He’ll fix it up, no problem.”

“Good,” Arslan agreed, beginning to drag Ruby. She was way stronger than her. “Last thing we need is it jamming in the middle of a match. You are still going to test it out and make sure it is working perfectly. Understand?”

“Yep!”

Ruby suddenly remembered why she was here. Her initial excitement at being able to test out a new weapon pushed Jaune's and Weiss’s date from her mind. Of course, that was the reason she was even out here in the first place. She knew she really shouldn’t have been spying on them in the first place. Checking out Reese’s weapon was a good excuse to abandon her mission. If she wanted to keep spying, she would either have to get Arslan off her back or swap to someone else.

Her finger reached into her pocket for the remote.
