Secretary

Jessica worked as a secretary at a high profile law firm Frost, Albert, and Vadkerti She had gotten the job straight out of college, but was still pretty new. John hadn’t been too happy with her getting the job. He worked at Hogan, Williams, Cartwright, and Young. The two firms were big rivals and always competed with each other for just about everything including personnel.

Her job had been partially responsible for their big fight a few weeks ago. Jessica had just gotten the news that she got the job. She had expected John to be pleased, but instead he had been furious. Jessica could tell it was more than just business. It was also some of the people she worked for.

Jessica tried to put all those unpleasant memories out of her head, and picked out an outfit for work. She chose a short black pencil skirt and an elegant yet simple white button up blouse. With a set of black heels to match and some simple makeup, Jessica put her hair up in a professional ponytail. There! The perfect working woman.

Her phone buzzed and Jessica check it and saw a text from her best friend Emma.

"Hey bitch! Hope your night went as good as mine!" Followed a stream of emojis including a few eggplants and peaches.

Jessica smiled. She loved Emma and sometimes felt like she was living vicariously through her friend who always seemed to in the middle of all the excitement...and all the men. She tapped out a quick reply.

"I don't know what happened to you, but probably not. Things with John didn't go well. Tell you more later."

Emma's replay was quick. "That jerk doesn't deserve something as sweet as you babe! Sorry your plans didn't work. Let me know if you want ideas on how to get back at him."

Jessica didn't want to know what crazy ideas her friend had. They probably wouldn't end well.

Outside, the rest of the apartment was empty and quiet. Did John leave without even talking to me? Jessica shook her head. She brought out her phone and texted John a short message saying good morning and apologizing for sleeping too late. Then she was off.
