Chapter 31
by Bengates
Prompt: Sarah stares in astonishment at the devastation she's created. Describe the destruction of the mountain and the devastation it's created in great detail using the style of Timothy Zahn.
Wow, that's actually a lot more destruction than I had imagined. Well, now to do the good author thing and make sure this has consequences! (And add some plot twists and secrets! (since the Ai seems to hate secrets and tension of any kind...))
For a few moments, there is silence, and Sarah is left breathless and stunned, feeling the last remnants of the Will of Fenrir leave her body.
As the Will of Fenrir seeped away, Sarah's eyes cleared completely, and she looked around in wonder. The mountain was gone, reduced to a single pillar of stone surrounded by a sea of rubble. She could see that the terrain around them had been devastated by the collapse, trees had been uprooted, and the ground was cracked and uneven. It was as if a giant had taken a hammer to the land and shattered it into a million pieces.
She turns to Jake, feeling a mix of awe and fear. "What have we done?"
As far as the eye could see, the terrain was scarred and twisted, and the once-beautiful mountain range was now a barren wasteland. The air was thick with dust and smoke, and the only sound was the distant rumble of collapsing stone. It was a scene of utter desolation, a wasteland of broken stone and shattered dreams, and Sarah knew that the memory of this destruction would haunt her for the rest of her life.
"We've done what we had to do, Sarah," Jake says, putting a comforting hand on her shoulder. "We've stopped the ritual, and we've saved countless lives in the process."
As the power of the Will of Fenrir began to seep away from her, Sarah's senses slowly returned to normal. Suddenly, her thoughts turned to her friends Amy and Dana. She realized that the **** of the mountain collapsing might have put them in danger.
"Oh my god," she gasped, turning to Jake. "I have to find them. They might be hurt."
Jake looked at her with a mix of concern and pride. "I'm sure they're fine, Sarah. But be careful. You just used a lot of power."
"I know," Sarah said, guilt in her voice. "I'm sorry, Jake. I should have been more careful."
"Go," Jake said, his voice softening. "I'll stay here and make sure the mountain doesn't shift again. I’ll come find you when I’m strong enough to climb down, don’t worry about me."
Sarah nodded, dressed, and used the last of her power to take flight, leaving a weak and weary Jake behind.
((Author's note: Ah, there's a short word count on the prompts, here is the full extend of the next prompt since the site cuts it off: Prompt: Jake is suddenly compelled by Fenrir (who speaks to him in a savage way directly into his mind and soul) to go and destroy the avatar that dared to survive the devastation spell. Fenrir should be portrayed as savage and selfish seeking destruction. Jake does his best to resist Fenrir.))
