Lunch?
Drive to lunch
I waited for around ten minutes in the front lobby for Kat. Meanwhile during that time I decided to take out and complete sudoku puzzle in my backpack that has, at least until this point, broke my brain. But Kat comes striding in with her chin up high waving off any further calls from any of the suits and approached me and my sudoku book.
"Business is conducted, at least so far, and our rides right on time. Come on lets go!" To which Kat grabs me by the arm and rushes me out the building. Flagging down our driver, right away and pushing the both of us in the back of the car. "Sorry about that, I just wanted to go out of there before anything else was asked of me," Kat says.
"It's all good, I guess," I say.
"It better be," she responds playfully, "I wouldn't take you for a math guy," she leans over pointing at the sudoku book.
"I'm not particularly, it's just a easier puzzle compared to a crossword"
"Oh, so you're not into a challenge now" Kat teases.
"Depends on the challenge" I jab back.
We spend maybe 10 to 20 minutes chatting away, or mostly Kat does, as the car drives us to our location, it was at this moment that I realized I should probably be doing something more productive than hanging out with this stranger. However Kat seems nice enough besides her teasing. If I was maybe a bit more talkative we might get along more but for now I'm still too shy. We're about to reach our destination soon when I realize that the surroundings are becoming quite familiar and an existential fear envelopes me.
"Which place are we going to for lunch?" I ask nervously
"Oh shit, I forgot to tell you. Sorry about that. It's a place called Joe's, it's a diner, you know it?" Kat replies
"Yeah actually, my sister works there"
"Well then you can help me pick out my food since you might be familiar," Kat says not realizing that she a 40 year old woman is taking an 18 year old boy to a diner who which his sister with zero context works at. "Look we're here, come on let's go" she does again grabbing me by the arm.
