A good chat and Lunch

After Kat practically pulled me out of the car, she pulls me over to the diner where my sister works at. It's not big by any standard and it's one of the places where there isn't really a hostess you find a seat and a waitress comes to you. I manage to spot my sister, and put my head down to hide in embarrassment, which isn't easy at my height. Luckily she's working at the other side of the place and I choose a booth to hide in with my back to her.

Kat practically senses my uncomfortableness but shrugs it off, at least so far. And a waiter comes up to the table, and much to my displeasure it's my sisters friend Rob. Rob and Cindy have worked together for 4 years but also went to highschool together however they apparently weren't friends until they started working together. By all accounts Rob wasn't a bad guy, he was toned and every time I met him and a current girlfriend of his, he seemed chill. He also would go outside and play basketball with me when I was younger so I considered him a family friend at this point. The unfortunate fact was that there is now a chance my sister might find out about this new older lady who won't get out of my hair.

"Can I get you guys started with some drinks today?" Rob says before looking over at me and breaking all character, "Oh shit, hey CJ what you doing here?"

"Uh... getting lunch," I reply back

"And who's this fine lady?" Rob says looking over to Kat checking her out.

"Oh I'm Katherine, but you can call me Kat, I owed CJ a lunch so I thought might as well here, it's nice to meet you" Kat replies for me extending her hand out.

"I'm Rob," he says returning the handshake, "So what can I get started for you guys?"

"I'll just have a water," Kat says

"Same," I reply

"By the way CJ, I can get Cindy to be your server if you want?" Rob asks.

"No, no, I'm fine with you" I reply almost a bit too rudely.

"Ooh, I see what this is, have fun man," Rob says shooting me a wink.

"Wait Rob, it isn't like that," I say back with Kat chuckling to herself.

"Sure man, your secret is safe with me" Ron says with the mouth zipping gesture as he walks away.

"I'm sorry if that was uncomfortable" I say to Kat who's still chuckling.

"It's fine, I'm sorry I made you so uncomfortable, I think I forgot we just met and how much I might make you uncomfortable with my forwardness" Kat says back finally stopping her laughing.

"It's okay, I'm just weirded out, you know," I say, "we just met and I haven't really got to know you and the age difference makes it feel weird to talk to you."

"It's fine CJ, I think I kind of ignored that fact that this would be uncomfortable, and that you really haven't really told me anything about yourself, and that I am being pushy by latching on to the first person I met who hasn't treated me as their boss or the enemy." Kat lets out, "I just wanted to make a friend in this hostile new place and I **** you to be around me." Kat says almost in tears

It was this moment, I actually felt bad and wanted to give her a chance at least. Sure it has been awkward but I have not been trying either or giving her any chance. I felt bad for my dismissal of her and I can tell after all that dismissal I hurt this woman (who hasn't been anything but nice to me) feelings.

I extend my hand out my hand, "New start?"

And Kat looks up and smiles and returns the shake and affirms to me, "New start"

A while passes and Kat and I start passing stories making each other laugh, turns out we have quite the same sense of humor and lunch goes by in the blink of an eye. I tell her about my family leaving out most of the troubles and she tells me she from out of state and that she truly is new here. We soon get the bill and Kat pays for everything and Rob shoots me a smile, although I'm pretty sure he thinks I'm getting laid by a milf tonight. We leave heading outside to wait for a ride, me avoiding my sister since we literally just got over the awkwardness. And Kat jokes with me "Still don't want me to meet your family?" she asks playfully.

"I thought we wanted to get over the awkwardness?" I jest back

"Thought we were over the awkwardness?" Kat says in a mock tone

"Hey sis, meet my new milf friend I met just today," I say and Kat starts laughing

"So I'm a milf now," Kat purrs in fake seductive accent.

"Rob seemed to think so"

"Eh, Rob's not my type"

"Oh he isn't now"

"Certainly not" Kat says again in another fake Brit accent.

"Then what is your type" I ask back before being cut off by our ride arriving.

"Come on lets go," Kat says ignoring the question and grabbing me by the arm.
