Chapter 7
by tol
What does she do while she waits for the others to return?
Try to find Cal.
Naomi tried not to think about what just happened as she walked back into Maldon proper. Adjusting her armoured skirt, she paused for a moment. She still felt very confused, with anger and shame and... other feelings fighting for prominence in her head. She needed to calm down, to think clearly, she needed to talk to a friend. She decided to try to find Cal - she was sure that her old friend's calmness and wisdom would help her understand what had happened.
...Perhaps she might relay a somewhat sanitised version of events, however. No need to tell her friend, a bastion of dignity and self-control, how close she'd really come to pleasuring an ugly old reprobate with her mouth. Thinking back, she still couldn't believe what had happened. She was top of her class at Solune's legendary Académie du Guerre! She came from an illustrious line of warriors of purity! That she would end up on her knees, allowing his filthy thumb in her mouth, that she would submit so much and actually consider submitting further... unthinkable! The man must be a powerful warlock, perhaps even in league with Daemons!
In her heart however, she worried that magic had nothing to do with it. Her companions were right, she had ended up in similarly inappropriate situations a few times of late... Was she really being tricked every time? Or was she really just - just a slut...?
No. Of course not! She was a Lady, a paladin of the Second Order, an incorruptible beacon of hope in the darkest night, and Garron was definitely in league with the Midnight Plane's most potent Daemons! She should really return and punish the sinner with holy light! ...But she should definitely not do that alone. Just in case.
Already feeling a little better, Naomi sat on a low wall and considered where her Calli might currently be, resting the new weapons on her lap. Naomi mused that perhaps she should have asked what the other two were going to do before she left, but Xinae's teasing got under her skin so quickly and she couldn't take it for very long. Well anyway, it was likely that the go-getter had left on one of her suggested tasks, and unlikely that she had already finished and returned to the tavern. The paladin knew her friend well enough to deduce that she had probably gone to obtain the speaking stones, so the three could stay in better communication. Which meant now Naomi had to try and locate the curio shop, and thus her friend.
With her uncharacteristic self-examination left in the dust, and a new "quest" on her hands, the voluptuous paladin felt much more herself. Leaping up from the low wall, she yawned and stretched her back, hard, easily lifting the wrapped equipment over her head. Without realising it she was giving the nearby houses quite a show, her leap throwing her skirt up, giving any onlookers behind her a nice look at her fancy underwear, and her stretches making her considerable chest look even more impressive. She caught the eye of a literally drooling girl in her late teens watching from across the road and gave her an angelic smile that made the girl's face turn bright red, then made her way into the winding alleys that she was fairly certain the tavernkeep had said housed her target.
Naomi moved quickly through the back alleys, anxious to hear her friend's counsel. The paladin didn't consider for a second that her ally might be in need of her help - she thought of Cal as undefeatable, unflappable, able to handle herself in any situation. Cal would have put a stop to Garron's shenanigans very quickly, without any confusing emotions, and certainly without any inappropriate dampness between her legs...
At this point the noble lady again had to pause to clear her mind and regain her usual oblivious confidence. And now that she had paused, she realised - she had no idea where she was or where she was going. The alleys wound between a mess of closely packed, dilapidated buildings - it seemed like they were minutes from total collapse, all leaning on one another for support. Sunlight struggled to get through the mass of roofs, and the only sounds were muffled bustling from the high street and the occasional door opening or quiet footsteps, whose location was impossible to pinpoint.
Does she find the curio shop? Or does someone find Naomi...?
