Memories

My memories took me back to Carl at my apartment during one of our winter vacations.

We were alone for just one week while Jeff traveled back to Holland to visit his folks. They didn’t know about Jeff’s sexuality either and he never planned to tell them.

Carl and I walked so much around the city those days that I skipped legs at the gym for the entire week, the much they hurted. It was so chilly outside on the streets that when we got home, we turned up the heater to the maximum we could and got under the covers in the living room couch, completely intermingled. This led to our bodies heating up fast, that led to body parts heating up fast, that led to Netflix asking if someone was still watching Grey’s Anatomy. I’m sorry, Dr. McDreamy, but I needed to be on call with my boy when he wanted it. Due to the coldness, we had to get creative with positions we could perform under the covers before things really heated up, but he always started riding my cock, wearing the comforter as a cowboy cape.

The sun was invading the edges of my bedroom curtains when I opened my eyes. Jeff was at my right and I could easily get up without having to move him.

In the living room, the frying sound found my ears and the incredible scent of scrambled eggs hit my noistrails. Chris was laying on the three—seat couch scrolling down on his phone while Leon was at the kitchen corner putting his culinary hobbies to a good use. He learned how to cook all by himself so we didn’t order takeout every single day.

“Good morning, bro! Do you want some scrambled eggs and bacon?” Leon turned his head to ask me.

“No, thanks.” In my head I formed a thankful smile on my face.

“Did you get any information from Jeff?” Chris asked me.

“Chris, he went to sleep. That’s all. Give him a break.” I answered annoyed.

Nothing Jeff could say would change my mind from the fact that my magic contributed one hundred percent to the **** of my boyfriend. Well, ex-boyfriend. Oh, God! I had to talk to Jeff about us too.

“We need to know what happened so we can prevent this in the future.” Chris was being pushier than normal.

“Chris, my– Carl just died! First of all, let’s sit on the fact that I have to get back to Harvard and take care of his funeral.” I was annoyed with him. How could he care so little about a person dying?

“He’s asking because Jeff was involved.” Leon said, placing his plate next to his laptop on the counter. He typed his password and turned it over to me.

“What?!”

“He made several access on those VR servers along with Carl and Ethan, according to this log file.” The time stamps on those access made me realize we were under my Reality Spell for about two days and the three of them kept changing configurations on the game while we were in there. Also, there were multiple errors and bug warnings along the lines. “They kept waking up and changing the course of things as they wished, but somewhere in the process the game started bugging.”

“Yeah. I remember waking up for a few seconds and seeing them together.” I admitted.

“When Leon and I started to show up to you, a lot of things went out of line.” Chris said.

In the game, my brother had kissed me. For as much as I love him with all my heart, I would never kiss him with that much intensity he showed me in the lockers.

“Do y’all remember everything you lived in there?” I asked my brothers.

“Yes.” They answered in unisson. I just stared at Chris.

“And?” I demanded that he kept going.

“I don’t know what the fuck happened. It was a fucking VR game! All I wanted to do was wake you up and things happened the way they did.” Chris explained himself.

“What are you two talking about?” Leon looked from me to Chris.

“Chris and I were some kind of lovers there.” I tried to begin to explain.

“But I thought the whole thing was about you and Carl.” Leon made a weird face.

“It was, but sometimes Chris came up to me and did… couple’s things.” I said and crossed my arms, puzzled with myself. Chris remained silent.

Well, he wasn’t just being silent. He was being silently weird with Carl’s ****, with Jeff, with us. I knew my brother too well, but I decided it was a thing of his. As soon as he felt comfortable he would tell me everything he knew, maybe it was something just him and I could understand.

“I believe he was trying to make you see some nonsense bullshit to make you break it, didn't you?” He looked at Chris, who confirmed with his head.

“Yes, that was it.” He answered, but I didn’t buy it for a second.

“And gross, man! Didn’t you have anything else better to show him?” Leon laughed and breaked some of the tension in the room, returning to his cooking.

I shook away the feeling my brother was hiding something when it hit me again: Carl was dead and I had to do something about it.

“Michael?” I heard Jeff calling behind me.

“What?” I turned to him.

He had my phone in his hands, the screen for me to see the call.

“It's the Police.”
