Chapter 82 by daciasdesire daciasdesire

Rest for the soul.

Waiting to arrive.

When Spencer woke up Evelyn was still in his arms. He didn’t try to move but enjoyed the feeling of waking up next to another person. He’d missed that, especially this week while Danielle was away. Evelyn was certainly nice to have within his arms too. There were some clear differences to Dani. She was taller for starters. Evelyn was also more muscular and fitter than Dani, not that Dani was out of shape in the slightest. Evelyn just had a wrought edge to her muscles thanks to the requirements of her job. Evelyn also had a great little tush on her, Spencer knew, he was resting his junk up against it.

Carefully Spencer disentangled himself from Evelyn. The sheriff’s deputy opened her eyes and rolled back into him as he tried to get up.

“I’m just going to make us some coffee,” Spencer told Evelyn. It was almost 10:30 am. They’d slept for hours.

“Mmmm, thank you. And thank you for last night too,” Evelyn said.

“I didn’t do anything but you’re welcome.”

When Spencer returned with two hot cups of coffee Evelyn sat up in bed. Spencer crawled back in beside her once again. Evelyn blew the top of the liquid and then took a sip. It was brewed strong, just the way she liked it.

“I’ll drink this and then get out of your hair,” Evelyn told him.

She didn’t have to but it was probably for the best. Spencer would have to pick up Amy from her sleepover at Kimberly’s soon enough. It wouldn’t do for Evelyn to still be here just in case Darcie and Tony dropped Amy off instead.

“Did you want to take a shower?” Spencer offered.

They hadn’t done anything that would require Evelyn to wash off so she told Spencer that she would do that back at her house. Getting dressed Evelyn made sure to take the gun with her before saying goodbye to Spencer and going off about her day.

That day Amy was still pumped up about her team’s victory against Cherryville. She wanted to practise some more so Spencer and she spent some time out in the yard catching and throwing. It would have been better if they’d had a bat for hitting, Spencer making a note to buy one during the week if they had any in town.

The following day Spencer helped John and his crew set up the first stages of the barn. He was probably more of a hindrance than a help but Spencer liked being physically active when it wasn’t something he had to rely on for a living. One of the things Spencer and John spoke of as they worked was new uniforms for the school’s softball team. Spencer presented the offer to John of donating the money to the school to get new playing suits made and adding the amount to Spencer’s bill for the barn in return. It was a benefit for each of them. John got Monaghan Construction emblazoned across all of the Avonwick team shirts and Spencer found a way to pay for it without his name being linked in the transaction. Despite all his wealth, Spencer didn’t like being showy with it and preferred to keep it more to himself, cars and his wonderful house besides. They shook on the deal and John told him that he would contact the school the following day to organise the donation.

The rest of the week Spencer kept mainly to himself. He wanted his house to be just right for when Dani got back. Fresh sheets and a good clean. He had the place looking spotless a dozen times over. By staying mostly to himself Spencer didn’t risk being unfaithful to Danielle either. His hall pass was effectively torn up and thrown out with the trash.

Danielle and he had spoken on the phone most nights that week. She was going to spend Friday night after her course at the hotel in New York City and then drive back the following day. It could take her 3 or 4 hours depending on the traffic.

As Danielle was in her car getting ready to drive back to the man she was falling deeply in love with, Spencer and Amy were getting ready for the girl’s game against Oxford this week. It was a home game thankfully. Spencer and Amy could spend extra time at home in the morning before driving to school. It also meant that Spencer would be in Avonwick when Dani arrived too.

Take me out to the ball game.
