Jack vs Snow

“Amber! Amber! Over here,” Dede Devin calls out to you and John. “Amber! John!” You scowl not wanting to talk to her after your last interview. Especially since all you want to do is run as fast as you can to your seats and watch Jack’s match. And why not? Why shouldn’t you just do what you want.

You take John’s hand, and flip off Dede and the camera while running down the halls to your seats. “Well, folks it seems as if once wasn’t enough for the seemingly insatiable Amber of Pallet Town,” Dede’s voice follows you down the hall. Sure she’s going to paint you as some sex crazed trainer, but she might have done so even with an interview if her last interview was anything to go off of.

“Come on, I don’t want to miss any of Jack’s match,” you huff, already a little out of breath.

When you sit down between John and Daisy, you lean over to Daisy, “What did we miss?”

Jack’s Ponyta stands against the other trainer’s Falinks. Jack’s opposition is Snow, a woman dressed in a long yellow skirt and a form fitting blue top, her short curls pushed back by a red headband.

Snow issues commands, and the 7 individual bodies of Falinks hunker down, their defense rising. Ponyta surrounds them in a whirl of flames, the fire spin licks at the enemy whittling their health down. The Falinks charges forward through the flames to headbutt Ponyta.

“These gals mean business,” Iono laughs, “BUUUT who oh who will win this? Eh, whatevs, after we’ll get the real show when the winner takes her forfeit.”

You try to tune out the condescending commentary. Why does nobody seem to care about women’s battle savviness, instead of just our ability to be screwed after our matches.

The Falinks moves in for another headbutt but as it gets close, Ponyta stomps and ends the battle. Snow is **** to recall her 7 tiny partners. Next from Snow’s side is her Sableye.

“Heigh-ho, heigh-ho, wouldya look at the sparkle in those eyes?” Iono calls out, using her own camera control to zoom in on Sableye’s gem-like eyes.

Sableye moves in an eerie manner. It approaches Ponyta and forces it to flinch with a fake out. Then uses the opening to lash out with its shadow infused claws. Ponyta buckles under its weight and Snow quickly evened the count once again.

“Wowzah, that was quick!”

You expect Jack to throw out her Numel, it’s the only pokemon on her team not weak to the ghost typing. But when instead it’s Sandygast who makes an appearance you’re a little confused.

Sandygast throws sand up everywhere, Sableye tries to cover its crystalline eyes. The sand coalesces around the goblin, digging into the pokemon as it swirls. Snow motions for Sableye to attack, but as it swings shadowy claws at Sandygast, the sandcastle shifts to dodge.

Jack orders Sandygast to siphon from the enemy, mega drain, green energy flies from Sableye to Sandygast. Jack keeps the routine up, sand swirling, dodging, and draining. An occasional hit landed on Sandygast but it was able to persevere until finally Sableye faltered.

“Back to da mine with ya,” Iono calls out as Snow retrieves her partner. A magnificent Sawsbuck appears on the battlefield, pink flowers attached to its bare horns. “Can Snow and her woodland creature pull it out? Keep your eyes wide, and take it all in.”

Sawsbuck prances around Snow. Jack tries to repeat the obscuring strategy, but Sawsbuck is fast and outpaces the swirling sand. A barrage of bullet seeds launch from Sawsbuck, and Sandygast looks worse for wear with each one. Sandygast releases a wave of psychic energy, trying to put Sawsbuck to sleep. If it had worked, Jack probably would’ve capitalized on the opening, but it missed and Sawsbuck finishes the match up.

“Looks like we’re all getting hyped up!” Iono cheers, the crowd follows her lead. “Gimme the next pokemon, Jackie Jack Jacko!”

Jack rolls her shoulders, the tension building in her. It must be Iono annoying her, cause most of her team will easily deal with Sawsbuck. And Litwick appears to take on the opposing woodland creature.

“Woo! That can’t be what the ‘Snow Angel’ was looking for. Fire putting her in the hot seat!”

And Iono was definitely right, a quick flamethrower later and Snow is down to her last pokemon. She throws out her last pokeball, a large red apple sits on the battlefield. A moment later, the red skin of the fruit opens wide to reveal the small green dragon within. Flapple.

Jack jumps to action quickly, and a purple gas wafts from Litwick’s flame. The smog envelops the apple dragon, and it soaks into the red shell. Flapple winces, and beads of purple drip from the pokemon.

The poisoned apple would be Snow’s downfall for sure. Even if she could take out Litwick, she’d have to make it through another of Jack’s pokemon.

“Nyohoho! That’s probably it folks! I dunno ‘bout you but I don’t see Snow Angel pulling it out.”

Jack doesn’t just wait for the poison to finish the match. Litwick launches a hex, dealing extra damage to the poison afflicted apple dragon. Snow has gone an even paler shade of white, even she is sure of the imminent loss coming her way. And as Flapple falls to the candle’s flame, Snow drops to her knees.

She looks comatose, kneeling on the ground unmoving as Iono riles up the crowd. “It’s time for the forfeit! Everyone at home, get ready to screencap this, I think we’ll want to watch this again and again!” You and your friends stand cheering as loud as possible, trying to outdo the rest of the stadium so Jack knows how proud of her you all are. She looks your way and blows a kiss, your heart flops in your chest.

Jack undoes the cuffs of her long sleeved blouse as she approaches the defeated trainer. She kneels next to the unmoving trainer, and lifts her chin for a kiss. Jack’s lips on Snow’s seems to bring her back to life. Snow awoken from her defeat induced haze realizes what is still needed of her, and she recalls her fainted pokemon. And Jack kisses her again.
