Chapter 6
by Ashlight
Does she model?
Absolutely not
With a sigh, Alice looked at the dress wearily. The worst part was that she had no idea if this was some sort of joke made in poor taste, or if those two really believed that this was a suitable armor for female recruits. She really could see them sitting across from each other, brows scrunched in concentration as they debated the merits of showing skin. Maybe they thought this would distract the enemy? It wouldn't be out of the realm possibility for them. Honestly, she had no idea why Jamis hated the church so much when so much of their misogyny line up perfectly. Reaching out to touch the fabric, she felt the coarse leather and had to admit that the quality was high. All the more evidence to prove that this wasn't a joke or a bet made after too many drinks. Buffoons, the both of them, she thought to herself as she shook her head.
To think that she would debase herself like this though, the general must be even more foolish than she had initially imagined. _Her? _Stripping down and putting on that? Utterly preposterous. He must be removed from this position if Gardius is to have any chance of recovering once her father dies. Sometimes, it truly does feel like she's the only sane woman in an asylum, and can do naught but watch as her beloved home is driven into the ground, piloted by blind arrogance and worthless traditions. Glancing over at Kurtis, Alice can see that he's still got that condescending grin on his face, looking at her expectantly, and she silently vowed that if doesn't have the good sense to resign before she becomes queen, she'll be hanging his severed head on the city walls.
"Do you really think I need to put this on to tell you my honest opinion?" She asked bluntly, turning to face the general. "Would you like to see arrows in butts? Because this is how you get arrows in butts. Maybe you ought to put it on and prance around the fields, see if the fabric can contain your fat. That would show true craftsmanship."
"You- This is- We designed this after much female input-" Kurtis sputtered, having not expected to be spoken back to in that manner, not by a woman almost half his height. "You should know that men and women have diff-"
"Female input??" Alice asked, eyebrow raised curiously. "By that whore you were fucking? Maybe she thought you wanted her to wear it in bed, because there will be no fighting in this, and absolutely no chance that this skimpy thing holds together for more than five seconds under stress! In fact, I'd feel better if you'd just lied and said you wanted to see my ass! At least that would be understandable."
Without waiting for a response, she stormed away, the stairs buckling beneath her stomps as she went. To think she thought they needed sabotaging when they're perfectly capable of doing that themselves. Without her intervention, there was no doubt in her mind that Del would outmaneuver Jamis and take the throne for himself. At least this trip wasn't a total waste, as she knew that there would be no need to ever visit these fools again. Del was the real threat here.
Finley saw her furious face and knew better than to ask any questions, and he obediently followed after her, hoping that no one would accidentally get in her way during the trip back. It didn't look like she was in the mood for mercy...
