Chapter 5
by
Artican
What's happening on the dance floor?
The redhead is teleported away in a flash!
The entrancing lady that everyone’s eyes had been watching suddenly seemed to glow, brighter and brighter until it burned the eyes to stare.
“What’s going on?!” Kayla cried out, turning her head away from the blaring illumination.
“The lady’s dance is over,” Damien told her in a calm voice. “It’s time for her to pay her bid!”
The room flashed white, then suddenly everything seemed dim for the group. Slowly their eyes adjusted to the normal lighting.
“Wait, where did the lady go?” Terrence asked, being the first to notice.
“Like I said, off to pay her dues,” Damien explained. Everyone at the table looked at him dumbly. He glanced at them, as if realizing for the first time that he was being vague and unhelpful. He straightened up and then leaned in, ready to spill the juicy gossip of the auction house. The others leaned in to listen. “You see… this auction… is magic!”
“Magic?” Wyatt asked, incredulously. Janette scoffed while Kat’s eyes widened at the notion.
“You saw it with your own eyes, didn’t you?” Damien asked, gesturing to the spot the winning bidder once stood.
“Wait, what happened to her?” Kayla asked with concern.
“She should be fine,” Damien assured her. “Four and a half minutes is hardly enough time to get into any real danger.”
“D… Danger?” Kayla gulped.
“What kind of underground trading did you get us involved in, Damo?” Terrence asked.
Damien raised his hands. “Hey, where’s the fun in me spilling everything? Don’t you want to be surprised? This is a night of adventure, remember?”
The remaining five table members looked at each other uneasily.
Do they demand answers or play along blindly?
