Revelations

In the close, intimate embrace of Alice, as she continued to kiss me, I… fell ****. The lack of sleep and excitement of the morning caught up to me. It happened so quickly I hadn’t even had a chance to attempt to fight it.

I yawned as my eyes slowly opened, looking down Alice was staring back up at me with a soft warm smile. I wondered for a moment how long I’d been out but then realised I had a blanket cushioning my head.

“How long was I asleep? And have you been staring at me the entire time?” I asked.

Alice’s smile widened a little before she leaned up and kissed my cheek. “It’s about mid-day-ish, so a good few hours and I haven’t just been staring at you all day. I have had more than a couple snuggle breaks though. No, after you fell asleep, I cleaned us both up. Then you looked a little uncomfortable so I put that behind your head, and then I did a few chores. I pulled the wreckage apart and stacked everything up neatly.”

I smiled and stroked her hair. “You should have left me to do the heavy lifting… but thank you. I know I’ve slept most of the day away but do you mind if I just lay here for a while longer with you?”

She nodded and leaned up, giving me a peck on the lips before resting her head on my chest and curling up. I wrapped my arms around her while staring up at the sky through the treetops.

Half an hour or so passed and I let out a loud sigh. Alice pushed herself up onto her elbows and looked down at me. “You’re not thinking too hard again are you?” she asked with a slightly worried expression.

I chuckled. “No, nothing like that. I was thinking though, and I think you are right.”

“Of course I am,” Alice cut in with a grin.

I rolled my eyes. “Shut up and listen. I was thinking about it, and you were right about blaming myself for the tent, but not only that, blaming myself for the things that keep happening between us is pointless, it’s not like I’m trying to corrupt you or something. Things just happened and even though we should try to stop things from getting too out of hand, I also can’t just keep blaming myself for it.”

Alice’s smile grew wider and she leaned down, capturing my lips. I thought about pushing her away but kissed her back instead, it was a pleasant kiss that didn’t involve our mouths opening and ended as quickly as it had begun.

“Good, I’m glad you’re gonna be stopping all that shit. I get that you have some kind of protective big brother complex or something but there’s no one you need to protect me from here,” she said as she rested her head on my shoulder.

I nodded my head and let out a quieter sigh before lightly pushing Alice off of me. I’d been asleep for too long and needed to reconstruct our hut. This time I ensured that the half sunken hut was completely secure, I replaced the corner bamboo with longer pieces and dug them into the ground maybe a foot or so before hammering them from the top to drive them roughly another foot. I also put tension on them, using rope tied to trees around the camp.

Once done it made the previous attempt look like a five year old had done it. Looking up at the sky, it seemed that it was getting close to evening, and my stomach rumbled, signalling me to find out what we’d have for dinner.
