I could do breakfast, then I guess the party a few days later.

“Let’s eat,” you say.

Arabella’s tail wiggles slightly. “Eat me?”

The idea seems enticing, but you shake your head. “Eat breakfast.”

“Aw,” Arabella makes false sadness but gets dressed up anyway…

The party was being hosted at a big warehouse. And surprisingly, there were a lot of people attending it. It wasn’t just a party; many different things were happening simultaneously. A mini-putt course, a maze, and other carnival games. Along with the games were very festive decorations. Cardboard skeletons. Carved pumpkins. Green and purple line lights– witches, webs, spiders, steam machines!

“Oh, wow!!” Mikko howels. “This looks super fun!” She wraps her arms around yours, pushing you forward.

You steady Mikko, your smile failing to hide. “Calm down, Miko.”

“How can I?!” She laughs. “Wow! Wow wow! I’ve never EVER seen anything like this! Thank you so much, master!!”

Your cheeks get red, and you start to feel melancholy. “Don’t mention it.”

Arabella slides in on the other side, taking your other arm. “Don’t look now, but you’re getting some attention already.”

You blink and look around. You see nurses, doctors, werewolves, and zombies looking at you as they notice the excited Mikko beside you. “We’re just a couple of good friends going to a Halloween party. What's weird about that?”

Arabella tugs slightly. “Maybe they’re jealous?”

“Maybe they are,” you look at Arabella in her french maid uniform and then at Mikko. Both subjects are beautiful. Plus, even if the people weren’t fans of mutants, the fox ears and tails could be mistaken as pieces to the costume.

“Come on! Let’s go, go, go!!” Mikko pulls even harder, finally winning the lazy tug-of-war that you were putting up with.

“We better get moving,” Arabella whispers. “Otherwise, she’ll get louder.”

You take heed of Arabella’s advice and follow Mikko around as she bounces from attraction to attraction while partaking in the different snacks that are provided. Candied apples, cupcakes with frosted skulls, hot Chex mix, and some savory bourbon chicken served over some wild rice. There are some games that you are good at, but there are some others where the foxes are superior– those games are ones focused on balancing or throwing.

Bobbing apples go fine, but you refuse to play the game with them even when they return thoroughly soaked and try to entice you to try it. Mikko takes the highest score in putt-putt but probably has more fun than you and Arabella combined. Arabella shows an **** talent for guessing how many things are in jars and takes the grand prize and more than one occasion.

About 4 hours in, someone announces that they will be playing a movie. At that point, you were considering going home, but when you saw Mikko’s explosive reaction to this announcement, you figured you would be here for at least 2 or 3 more hours. Unfortunately, the movie was being played in a big outside theater. Arabella chimes in that you should indulge in some snacks before it starts. Mikko jumps in at the idea, saying that was the best thing she’s suggested all month.

Arabella takes more offense from this than she should, but she’s able to hold her tongue. Finally, after about 15 minutes of going looking for food, you find a spot on an open field where the movie is being displayed. The area is decorated too. Scarecrows line the borders of the available space; lit jack-o-lanterns create walkways to open spots where people can lie down. However, there are also old cars and empty truck beds for you (or anyone else) to use as your seating.

You opt to use an empty truck bed. This is because it’s already filled with blankets and pillows and is big enough for the three of you.

The title comes on the screen, “Halloween.” Mikko reads this and squeals. “My first horror movie! She grabs and shakes you happy while kissing you over and over again. Arabella kicks Mikko and tells her to be quiet.

Mikko looks around and sees that she’s dragged a few eyes over at her and apologizes. And snuggles up closer to you and sighs, resting her head on your chest. Arabella is nearby too, but she seems enthralled with the movie as it begins. It has been forever since you’ve last seen the film, but you’ve remembered enough that you aren’t as interested in it as your companions.

A cool breeze washes in, bringing the smell of corn, candy, and junk food. You could have fallen asleep with Mikko this close. But, instead, her warmth was trapped in yours as she breathed beneath the blankets. She moves every couple of minutes and rubs against you, tangling her legs with yours. But, instead, you found it easier…and more enjoyable to pay attention to Mikko.

As a moan emerges from the speakers, your eyes are dragged back to the large canvas screen. “Oh,” you mutter. “Sex.”

You watch lazily, still a little disinterested in what is happening; Arabella ate the popcorn, her eyes not wide but focused. On the other hand, Mikko's breathing started to get a little labored. “Whoa,” she says, her eyes wide, “They can show that in movies?”

“Yeah,” you whisper. “Didn’t you see the ratings in the beginning?”

She nods, her eyes taking in everything. “Still though…”

Mikko seems to be getting worked up, and you look around.
