Unburdened

That evening, it’s obvious to the girls that you’re a bit distracted. The more you think about it, the more odd and ominous Kelly’s warning sounds. Ever perceptive, Mazzy notices immediately, and she pulls you aside to talk about it.

“So, what really happened? Obviously something’s on your mind, and it’s got you acting weird. Spill it, Brian!”

You look down at the diminutive halfling, standing with her hands on her hips and a serious expression on her face, and you chuckle. Something about this tiny woman looking so stern is amusing to you. Composing yourself, you nod.

“Sorry, you just look so serious, it’s cute.”

Mazzy grins. “Damn right I’m cute! But no changing the subject, mister. What happened that’s made you so odd tonight?”

With a sigh, you explain the news and warning that you received. Mazzy listens intently, not interrupting as you speak. In truth, there’s not that much to say, since Kelly never went back to elaborate on her words.

When you finish, you shrug. “I didn’t want to worry you girls, so I kept it to myself.”

Mazzy shakes her head. “We’re not blind, Brian. Especially when it comes to you. Plus, this affects all of us. But I don’t think there’s much we can do about it. It sounds like something you need to bring to the AWIO.”

You nod. “That’s what I thought. They’re the experts, after all.”

She smiles. “Yeah! So stop being all gloomy and come hang out with all your beautiful girls. Leave the troubles to the experts!”

You chuckle. “Good thinking, Mazzy. You’re so smart.”

Mazzy winks and grins. “Yes, I am. You should take my advice all the time! I’m the boss here, remember?”

You laugh and nod. “Of course, how could I forget!”

Still grinning, Mazzy takes your hand and leads you to the living room, where the rest of the girls have gathered. Mazzy gives them a thumbs up, and they all visibly relax. You sit down on the couch, and almost immediately you’re practically smothered in cuddles from all of them. For the rest of the evening, the girls take turns either snuggled up to you, like Ellie and Dakota prefer, or having you snuggled with them, as Kenna and Sirona do.

However, you notice that Mazzy is off to one side, and you shoot her a questioning look. The little halfling grins. “Don’t worry, I’ll be getting my share tonight! You’re all mine at bedtime!”

You laugh, your head resting against Kenna’s large chest. “Fair enough! Sounds like you’re planning something.”

Mazzy winks, shrugging.
