A little history about Clan Singellen

Hundreds of years ago, when the world was a very different place, Clan Singellen experienced a tremendous tragedy that drove them from their ancestral home in the Underdark and into the bright, sunlit lands of the surface world.

Historians still debate exactly what happened. Some say they were driven out for worshiping the wrong gods. Others say it was purely political maneuverings on the part of other drow clans who coveted Clan Singellen's mushroom caves. Another theory (and the one treated as the official history by the Singellen Clan) is that the other houses were jealous of Godo, a low-ranking male from their clan.

His virility was legendary (according to the Singellens), and it is said (again, by his clan members) that no woman could resist his charms. As a result, he slept with all of the other clans' matriarchs, spoiling them for other men who could never compare. That prompted violent retaliation from the drow women's jealous, inadequate, tiny-dicked lovers who could never hope to please any woman, let alone a matriarch.*

Regardless of the actual reason, the drow of Clan Singellen (and their associated vassals) were stripped of their lands, their wealth, and all of their possessions, including their clothes, and were sent naked out into the surface world to die.

The drow were a superstitious people back then and had never ventured beyond the Underdark. They assumed the world outside their vast underground tunnels and caverns was uninhabitable, and that those who wandered (or in this case, were pushed) out would meet some unimaginably terrible fate.
