Moving forward

Dinner time rolls around, and most everyone gathers for the meal. Rahu stays at the forge to inspect your armor further, while Victor and Amara have elected to spend an evening alone together. So that leaves just your family, including Kaeli, who reluctantly left Victoria’s side to join everyone else. Conversation is light, considering everything that’s happened in the past day.

After eating for a while, you sigh and set your fork down. Everyone looks at you expectantly, as if they were all waiting for you to say something. You look around the table, making eye contact with each member of your group, collecting your thoughts before finally speaking.

“I’ve come to a decision. We can’t wait any longer. Tomorrow, we move out.”

You look over at Kaeli. “You will be staying to watch over Victoria. Once she wakes, the two of you can join us if you like. But we can’t just wait here any longer, every delay only strengthens Niran.”

Kaeli nods. “I understand, and I agree. It pains me to have to stay, but I must stay with Victoria.”

You nod. “If any of the rest of you want to stay with her, please say so. This will be incredibly dangerous, and I don’t want to force anyone to risk themselves.”

Alex responds immediately, with a laugh. “If you think any of us are going to let you go without us, you’re crazier than I am!”

Melora nods. “Agreed. I know even Kaeli is torn by having to stay behind.”

The technomage sighs. “It’s true. I wish to join you, but I cannot leave Victoria either.”

Sarah leans forward, resting her elbows on the table. “So, what’s the plan? Where are we going?”

You look at her and smile. “I’m going to regret saying this, but we’re going to set up a forward camp near Addie’s inn, as we discussed.”

The girls laugh, even those that weren’t around to meet the energetic kangaroo girl. Nadia looks at you with amusement. “I’ve heard stories from the others, so I look forward to meeting her. Not as much as you do, I’m sure!”

You chuckle. “Yes, it’ll be nice to see her again, but it’s also a good launching point for a raid on the capital. Our goal is to take out Niran. Everything else is secondary.”

Hmm, and you just happen to be visiting a sexy monster girl at the same time? Funny how things work out…

Cassie giggles. “And this time you’re not on the run! I bet she’ll be super interested in the conquering hero!”

You sigh and roll your eyes. “I knew I would regret this.”

Beside you, even Ferra is smiling. “I think you like it, master. After all, it is not like we mind. Perhaps I could join you, this time?”

Now it’s your turn to laugh. “Maybe. That’s up to her.”

Alex grins. “See? You already know what’s going to happen!”

You chuckle and shake your head. “Fair enough. Anyway, everyone make sure to rest up tonight. We leave in the morning.”
