Quo vadis Lena?

Starts looking for answers

Morning came and Lena was still puzzled about Sandra and that house. She needed to run to the store to pick up a few items and decided that she would drive past that house to see if she could see anyone, possibly the owners.

After eating a light breakfast, Lena jumped into her car and drove to the store. She shopped for the items she needed and then left. Her heart began to race when she started her car because she was now going to drive past that house.

She noticed that she was gripping the steering wheel tightly as she turned down the street she needed. Slowly, Lena approached the house as her heart began to beat faster.

Slowing down more, she was surprised that Sandra's car was still parked in the same spot that it was in yesterday. "That's odd, didn't she go to work today?" Lena thought to herself.

As she slowly drove past the house, she saw nobody. All of the windows and doors were closed and the curtains were all closed shut. Not wanting to look like she was stalking anyone, she sped off and drove toward her apartment.

As she drove home, she couldn't stop thinking about her best friend and that house. They knew so much about each other and not one time did Sandra ever mention to her about knowing anyone that lived in that neighborhood.

Looking over at the passenger seat, she picked up her phone and called Sandra. After ringing several times, it went to voicemail. She hung up the phone and set it back down on the passenger seat. That's when she smiled and then grinned.

Quickly, Lena turned the corner and decided to drive over to Sandra's apartment. She had a key to Sandra's place so she decided to go see if she was home, even though she was certain she was not.

Slowly, she pulled into the apartment parking lot and parked her car. She just sat there for a few moments thinking about what she was about to do. With Sandra not home, she was afraid of jeopardizing their friendship by going inside to snoop around and look for clues.

Finally, she took a deep breath and got out of her car. Quietly, she closed the door and walked toward the apartment building. She looked around to see if anyone was watching her as she felt like a criminal about to commit a crime.

Once again, her heart started to race as she entered the building and began to climb the stairs. As she reached the top of the stairs, she walked down the dimly lit carpeted hallway. She didn't know what to expect as she held the key to Sandra's

apartment in her hand. What she hoped to find was the reason why she had become so distant and possibly what that sinister house was about. Looking both ways to make sure nobody was watching her, she knocked softly on the door.

As she suspected, there was no answer. She knocked once again and waited. She could tell it was completely silent in her apartment so with a trembling hand she pushed the key into the keyhole and turned it.

Slowly and cautiously, she opened the door and stepped inside, before softly closing the door behind her. Her heart was racing as she fumbled for the light switch. She finally found the switch on the wall and flipped it up, illuminating the room. Just then, she let out a gasp as her eyes widened.

What did Lena discover?
