Chapter 15 by TheArchitect TheArchitect

To be continued.

Yes.

The belt was a little tight on her waist, but perfectly bearable. Jen was feeling rather optimistic before stepping through, and that feeling solidified when her feet ended up on a surface of another texture. It was softer and warmer.

She was in a corridor that felt rather enclosed after the vastness of the hall, but otherwise was much more preferable. Floor, walls and ceiling were all slightly different shades of dark red, perhaps even closer to burgundy. The ceiling lights seemed a little weak to her, but, once again, she was just out of a very bright place.

After a little more shackle walk, Jen saw a little pocket to the left, just deep enough to contain the bed inside. Opposite to it, there were two small tubes on the wall. One was labeled "WATER", the other was "FOOD".

"That's pretty handy, I could really suck up some water. Hope there's no additives."

The girl waddled up to the tube and, after a moment of hesitation, put her lips around it. Fraction of a second later, the liquid started pouring through and into her mouth at a very forgiving rate. When she let go of the tube, it closed off instantly, and no more than a couple droplets spilled to the floor.

It was plain, boring water. Jen found comfort in that.

"Finally, I've found something benign in this goddamn place."

Then she tried the "FOOD" tube. It was a mix of mashed grains — a very effective, but ill-tasting meal.

"Ugh. I remember the taste. I used to give it a lot of attention."

Jen looked at the bed. She was kind of ready to move on, but some rest would not hurt as well. She sat on the sheets and made some evaluations before making up her mind.

Take a nap or not?
