Chapter 3 by ID: a man ID: a man

Who is in one of the Experiments?

Dormmates

Carmel Rossi read the consent form, looking for finer print. There was a lot of verbiage, but nothing that seemed overly complicated. "It says the injection will only be effective for 48 hours."

The woman who looked to be studying for an MBA, HR, pointed to the line as she spoke, "Read here, "Depending on the genetics or psychology of the subject, the residual effects may last up to 72 hours as dikleptoxyribonose-42 is disassembled by your body. "In other words, after 48 hours, you won't have an analogue of absolute gullibility syndrome. You'll become less and less gullibility."

Carmel leaned her trim body away from the papers. In a corner of the ceiling was an obvious CCTV camera, recording her actions. As it would be once the experiment officially began. "The university works for the government, and this, this diklept-oh, whatever, can steal people's freedoms away." And privacy.

"If it makes you feel any better, we get the majority of our funding from corporations. Does that ease your mind?"

"Touché."

"Well, if you don't need the money or credits..."

"No, I do. But that's not the reason I may be doing this. I'm doing this for my dormmate, Rachel. Ever since she's been diagnosed with the Trust Disease, she's been staying in our dormroom, coming out only when she has to. Worse, she's thinking of leaving the U. Only...."

"Only, she doesn't know who she can trust. You've decided it's going to be you."

"Right," the redhead nodded. "But I'm the kind of person that needs to understand what she's getting into beforehand. I guess, that means I have to be just the opposite and see what it's like to be gullible."

Suddenly, before her natural caution could freeze her hand, she signed the legal paper.

It took a few more minutes before she could initial and sign the rest of the small stack.
