Think it over

[Back to the 2nd-person main character's POV.]

You decided to hit that brewery you had seen in town. Maybe a drink would help.

Were you going to stay or go? Presumably your powers would work back in the city too, but this little town... there was something about this town.

The brewery was quiet. You sat at a table toward the back and ordered a burger and a Hazy Hopped Imperial Whatever.

Maybe you needed to figure out your powers more. You hadn't actually experimented since that first night.

There was something you weren't sure about. You waited until the waitress disappeared into the kitchen, so you were sure there was no way she could hear you. You walked over to a guy a few tables away, "Hey man, I think you should stand on your chair for the next few minutes." The pain wasn't as bad as you thought, and he hopped up onto the chair.

When the waitress came back out, you flagged her over, "hey, you see that guy standing on the chair there?"

"Yeah."

"Does that seem weird to you?"

"No, he's just standing there."

"Huh. Would you say it's normal for people to stand on chairs in here?"

"No, we kick people out for bullshit like that."

"I imagine you do. But that guy's cool?"

"Yeah sure, why not?"

"Alright, nevermind. Can I get another beer?"

So, it seemed like the results of your commands were kind of "accepted" by others. That's good to know.

Another thought had been lingering for you: was it getting easier? Weren't the commands with Lily easier today? Could it just have been Lily's 11/10 curiosity level making them easier suggestions?

Thinking back to that first night in the bar, some of those little commands seemed to have hurt a lot. You looked across the bar and spotted a big guy. You walked over, "hey, how long would it take you to walk home from here?"

"I dunno, maybe 30 minutes, but I'd never walk that far."

"Yeah sure, but I think you should walk home tonight."

It hurt, but the same command hurt a lot more the first time. Maybe this guy is more fit? How could you be sure?

Still, everything just felt a little easier.
