Chapter 58 by yamidamian
Is it enough?
Yes-they're on the run quickly.
Soon, my spawn are joined by the more experienced-troops walking around my rooted form. They didn't stand a chance-and soon enough, the entire thing turned into a rout, what few of them remain scrambling back for their gate. Most didn't make it back within their walls, those on the other side sealing the fates of their comrades by apparently erring on keeping the use out. It didn't do them much good. When you spent almost your whole life boring through rock, a bit of metal isn't a permanent obstacle: it's a challenge. One I could see and hear being taken taking, the portcullis warping under their ****. At least, until I let out a deafening roar, to be heard over the din as I made way over. A sound to indicate a retreat. There was confusion from my own-fortunately, the oldest, most loyal, and biggest were all one and the same, so they managed to get the others to do as they were supposed to, retreating back into the network they had come out of.
Simply put, I didn't want them running rampant within the town. A bunch of innocents there that I'm sure these things wouldn't discriminate their attacks against. I wanted victory enough to prove myself useful, not a bloodbath. Speaking of proving, I found my fox-eared superior at the head, her curved spear resting as she looked at it expectantly. "Shall we come in, or think they'll surrender after that?" A moment's consideration came before her reply. "Stronger message if we control a way in." At the implied order, I do what the claws had attempted to do-albeit, much more effectively, even as drained as I was. Winding my droopy tentacles between the grating provides a perfect leverage before I fling part of my back, ripping out massive chunks of metal with relative ease-a motion that I keep repeating until there wasn't any of it left, leaving a path that anybody could walk through. And soon enough, somebody did. Instead of all of us storming the place, a lone messenger was sent, while the rest of us waited.
I wouldn't want to have been that lone messenger-frankly, I was a bit surprised when they returned some time later. But they didn't come alone as the sun started to rise-dragging somebody behind them in chains. A snooping focus with my Eye tells my this is the rebellious rebellious Daimyo responsible for this whole mess in the first place, apparently betrayed after confidence was shaken by the bad loss. Of course, it was a bit of an unnecessary one, given the litany of curses from her mouth at her situation. Which she didn't seem to stop until she saw the leader with us herself. And with that, Opal took the chains, once boisterous leader now quiet as ****-while the rest of the men were anything but, thrill of a victory reinvigorating tired spirits.
How goes celebrating the win?
