Mana Surge

I wake up in a familiar field. I start sitting up when someone slaps me.

I look up to see an angry Gaia. She's looking down at me.

"Gaia? What was that for?" I ask her while sitting up.

"For being an idiot. I thought you'd kill someone. Or worse, get yourself killed." She says, still angry. I look at her confused before remembering what happened.

"What was that?"

"That was what we call a Mana Surge."

"What's a Mana Surge?"

"Y-you don't know? I thought someone would've told you. S-sorry for hitting you." She says calming down.

"Don't worry, you're weaker than I though." I say before she turns to me and glares. "I-I mean physically. I don't think any Goddess of life would be physically strong." I say trying to dig myself out of this pit. "Anyway, what's a Mana Surge?"

"A Mana Surge is when your mana becomes too... unstable. Your mana will become unstable if your ever under any stress or worrying about something. Or fear, or anger. Pretty much all negative emotions. Now normally most Lyna don't have to worry about this. This is because it takes a lot to lose control like that. But you! You just kept bottling all your feelings away. You didn't try to deal with them." She points at me accusingly and I apologize. "Next time you're worried about something or sad, just talk to someone about it."

"Okay, so what else happens? It felt well mixed, like I wanted to do different things but I kept getting confused on what."

"That's because you have multiple Schools of magic. Normally the School you use dictates how you'll react. Like I would start healing everything around me. That may not sound bad but that includes the grass and plants. I'd cause wherever I am to get overgrown with vines and weeds in a matter of seconds. But since you have lots of Schools of magic your mana tried to overwork itself. This helped you out though. It made your body move and react slower. Your lucky your instincts took over otherwise you'd have killed Liz and Kallen."

"What do you mean?"

"You cast Ancient Beast Slash on yourself, stopping your attack. Your body did this on instinct although I can't say why. But it's equally possibke one of your Schools made you want to protect them. So now that that's done, sit." She points to a spot under the shade.

"Why?" I ask her confused.

"I said SIT!" She replies and I sit down. She pulls my head onto her lap and starts running her fingers through my hair.

"What are you doing?"

"Your mom told me this used to calm you down. Now shhh, quiet." I sigh and close my eyes. Despite my apprehension this does feel calming and nice. I soon find myself drifting off to sleep. When I wake up I find myself back in the same bed as normal in the joint guild hall. I sit up and stretch my arms. I see my armor laying on the table and store it in my inventory. I put it back on my Secondary Equipment slot after changing back to my normal clothes. I check the time and am shocked to see it's almost 8pm. I go reach out to open the door and see my other arm I cut off is back on. I open it and go into the hallway. I see Liz down the hall walking towards me and wave.

"Hey Liz." I say trying not to sound awkward but failing.

"Your okay!" She answers running to me. She embraces me in a hug and I feel her hands touch my wings. Oh shit! I forgot I showed them my Annihilation magic. She pulls away and I put my wings away.

"So, what happened after I passed out?"

"Follow me. We were just about to wrap up our meeting about that. Might as well bring you in and get this done."

"Great. First a fight, then I nearly kill you, and now I get to go in a meeting! It must be my lucky day!" I say sarcastically causing her to look down.

"Y-you can go home. If you want."

"No, we should do this and sorry, I was being sarcastic but it probably wasn't the best time." She punches my shoulder lightly and we walk down the hall.

On the way I see few cleaners and swear they stare at me. Once we get to the room she opens the door.

"Liz, what took y..." Kagiyama starts but stops when he sees me.

"He's awake!" Liz says proudly. "Now come on. Sit." She says pulling my arm and pushing me to a chair. She sits down next to me and the room is silent.

"I should've waited. This is awkward." I say reaching to my head to push my hair back. I feel my horns are still out and quickly put them away. Well at least I know why I was being stared at.
