Chapter 84 by Felix715 Felix715

Carry on?

To the library.

Somewhat relieved to be leaving the chaos of House Wyvern, you decide it might be faster to cut through Delmorgan Park on your way to the next destination. House Cerberus is on the southern edge of the school grounds and you can drop by the library along the way. Your little chat with Keira was nice but it caused you to fall behind in your plan to make it to the Common Dining Hall in time for lunch. Rushing through the park, you attempt to make up the time. The wind has picked up as well, causing the tall trees with their rounded tops to dance in the morning sky.

Along the way, a group of six students play an odd game you have never seen before. In teams of three, they each manipulate a blue or green bubble of water in the air while simultaneously moving a short javelin made of golden light. The goal appears to be puncturing all opponent's bubbles, which then swiftly fly to their casters, drenching them in the water and signaling they are eliminated. As curious as you are, you keep moving to the southern entrance of the library.

The exterior entrance to the library, much like the one inside the school, is a rather unbecoming simple oaken door that lacks any markings. It swings open with an eerie silence, no doubt an enchantment of sorts. Inside, the impressive wooden shelves fill the chamber's two floors and students of all four houses either peruse their contents or are diligently studying at the many tables scattered about every corner. All rows on the first floor lead to a circular desk in the center where a couple of students work to catalog new acquisitions or log returns. Nearby, the back of one catalog serves as the public notice board. On it are posted the library's policies, notes from classmates requesting suggestions on differing topics, and adverts for various school groups.

Reading a few of the already posted notes, you see the academy hosts a nature enthusiasts group that hikes the nearby woods and hills, recording the natural development of rare vegetation and local creatures. A chess team is looking to bolster its members. In addition, an amateur wand maker is looking for a new alchemist to partner with for an upcoming project.

You quietly pin the flyer to an empty portion of the board and make your way back to the exterior door you entered. Although you have never seen it, you hear House Cerberus is located further south of the library, near the forest's edge.

The tall line of crow trees comes into view and what appears to be a short mound of dark stone stands as the only structure around. An ominous cave faces the school where the ground in front of it descends into the earth as a natural ramp leading below. Set into the cave walls hang two large doors carved with the image of a fiery three-headed hound, the sure sign of House Cerberus. Despite the sun being out, two torches decorate either side of the door causing shadows to dance across the door's surface.

Enter the cave?
