Lem says, tilting his head as if confused and then he presses his finger tips together, steepling his hands, "perhaps the confusion is that you are unaware... This is the dream. You need only ask yourself whose dream is it?" he says.

Yulia sighs, "we're going to the ascension path, maybe we'll go to the Old Mind after, if you can give us a good reason too," Yulia tells him, clearly agitated.

"I seek only to serve the whole in the best way possible, my goal has never wavered from that, I am simply given the gift of being able to second guess and suggest other methods of achieving that goal, as for what gift you possess... I am afraid I do not know. The Old Mind keeps some things close to the... proverbial chest," Lem answers.

"That's not really a good reason..." Yulia says as she walks past him and then stops, glancing into the mists, "damn it... Even with the mists being clearer, I can't see which way to Ascension..." she admits.

"I can of course guide you," Lem offers.

"You'll just guide us to the meeting with the Old Mind..." Yulia argues.

"Of course not. You will go there at your own pace, in fact after you have been to ascension, you will likely seek out the Old Mind anyway," Lem counters.

"What's that supposed to mean?" Yulia asks. Lem says nothing, but raises one hand and the mist swirls and then parts, revealing a tunnel.

"The path of Ascension is through there," he informs the group, "I apologize," he adds cryptically. Yulia hesitates, but they don't have much of a choice otherwise.

The group pass Lem and head through the revealed tunnel. Arriving at the path of Ascension, what they find is a horrific sight. Rows of strange fluid filled chambers, each one containing a naked Drow, Drider or Dwarf. Tentacles emerging from the chamber walls, entering the ears, mouths, anuses or when applicable, vaginal openings of each one. Among them people you've met. Andras the member of the explorers you met and various other explorers you saw at the hall, including the one who tried to offer Yulia a drink. More horrifyingly though, in two of the pods are Cherchiel and Isalia.

"W... What's going on here?" Isalia asks upon seeing herself in one of the pods.

Yulia draws out her rapier turning on Isalia and Cherchiel, "You're mimics? Both of you?"

"I... I'm not! That's impossible!" Isalia yells. Cherchiel just stares at Yulia and then closes her eyes.

"I... I'm sorry... I love you..." she says and then explodes, tentacles tearing out of her form as she morphs into an amorphous tentacular mass.

"I... I'm not a mimic! I'm not! I'm not! I'm n-agh!" Isalia screams before she too bursts into a tentacular mass.

Immediately the two newly revealed mimics lash out at Yulia and Goma.
