He's a frivolous fool who cares more about his ego and pleasures than actual governance of the realm, spending most of his time gambling and hunting and generally doing unsavoury things that don't benefit the realm in any way. His wife, Queen Agnes, was the real power behind the throne, making him her puppet and carrying out her wishes.

After all, The prospect of marrying a princess is a blue moon event and is considered a very rare even among the nobility. Not only that but a chance at getting it good with the Royal family was a very big opportunity. You could see it and you could understand, but still, it was a shock.

But while you were mulling over the possibilities another person in the room was having a very different reaction.

"My dearest father, I must've misheard you because it sounds like you just said that my brother is marrying that the fucking princess.” Skadi said, her left eye twitching ever so slightly as she spoke. Even if those who didn’t know her knew that this wasn’t a good sign.
