What's Next?
A Chat With A Goddess
The three of us eat dinner and get ready for bed.
"Tomorrow's Monday right? That means you have school again, don't you?" Luna asks as we start getting in bed.
"Yeah, but I'll keep my phone on vibrate so text when you want, however only call in emergencies." I warn her sternly making her pout.
"Don't worry, I'll keep an eye on her." Asami says snuggling up to me. "And besides, we're probably going to be busy sparing anyway. I'd like to get the hang of this summoning ring." I rub her head and thank her. Luna snuggles up and starts rubbing her head against my chest until I pet her to.
"Good night you two." I say before letting sleep take me. I wake up in a familiar field with a familiar tree. I walk up to the tree and see Gaia sitting in the grass humming a song. I don't know what song she's humming but it sounds familiar to me.
"Oh, Eric." She stops humming and stands up. "What are you doing here?" She asks.
"What do you mean?" I ask her confused.
"The place we're in is my soul. That's why your magic won't work, I probably should've said that the last time. Anyway now that you're my Champion you can enter this place from our link. Did Zack not tell you?" I shake my head no and she lets out a laugh. "So how'd you get here? It's normally supposed to take a while to do this, especially after you just became my Champion."
"I'm asleep." She looks at me confused before I continue and explain. "Well, I went to bed and the next thing I knew I was here." She looks to me surprised then mutters something. "What was that?"
"Oh, sorry I was just thinking aloud. I'm impressed that you managed to do this already." We're silent for a few minutes before she continues. "So, is there anything you'd like to talk about?"
"What is the Demon God?" My question takes her by surprise. She pauses and starts laughing.
"Sorry, sorry. It's just, you reminded me of your mother." A look of sadness covers her face, she coughs and continues quickly covering it up. "So the Demon God, firstly his true name can't be said. You see some of the Gods and Goddesses have names imbued with their power. This means that when their name is said they're allowed to view you. It's like the image I showed you of yourself last time, think of it that way. Secondly he's currently sealed. Many years ago when your parents and I fought him, I sealed him away when I realized we lost. This just sealed his body though. I did this with your mothers help. She could cast many schools of magic like you, and I poured all the mana I could through her. This allowed her to cast a sealing spell on the Demon God with my mana. Afterwards she teleported us away, before the Devils could capture us. My plan was to heal them as soon as we got back but I used up to much mana, and my body started to disperse. This happens to all Gods or Goddesses after they use up to much mana to quickly or all of it. Sorry, you wanted to hear about the Demon God. So the seal your mother put him under isn't perfect. It allows him minimal contact with the world around him. This means he can still create a new Devil. When we sealed him he had two Devils left alive. The Glass Devil and the Devil of Strength. The Golden Devil was made after but there are probably more. The seal places him within a small circular glass orb. They need the person with similar mana circuits as the one who made it. Unfortunately that means you, since your her son your mana circuits are close enough. Not to mention that you have the ability to use sealing magic. Few Lyna learn this school since its almost useless. After all, how will you fight and harvest the monsters in a dungeon when all you can do is seal them away." I nod and look up at the beautiful blue sky and think about what she said.
"What about you?"
"Me?" I nod before explaining.
"I heard that Gods and Goddesses were born as Lyna and gained enough power to ascend to godhood. So why did you do it? Is their a reason or did it happen by accident?" She looks at me and smiles before looking to the ground.
"Well, both I guess. I was a healer in the Lyna war. You've heard of it before, when Lyna would fight each other and do what they wanted with their powers. I specialized in healing and worked with the various organizations that wanted to create a governing system for us. Now they're some of the top guilds who regulate the Lynas use of magic. So back then I would follow closely behind the battles. I would travel around and heal everyone I could that I came across. I didn't join any of the guilds because I wanted to try and help all of them. It went pretty well and I made a name for myself. I wasn't good in a fight however. I knew the basics but that was it, so one day when I was placed in the center of a major conflict I tried to retreat to the backlines. I barely made it and started healing people I saw who were injured while ignoring my own. As the battle was nearing its end I felt my mana give out and collapsed. I remember a voice asking if I wanted to help them and I used the last of my strength to say yes. The next thing I knew I was standing in a field of flowers and everyone near me had been healed with no scaring or pain left. I didn't have time to think and started to heal them and we managed to push back the tide. After we won that battle most of the Lyna who were against us were to scared to resist the new governmental body. They disbanded a year later to form guilds instead and work with the country's government but that's a story for another day. After the battle I disappeared from the Lynas world. I didn't know what had happened to me and it took some time to figure it out. In fact, I only did because another Goddess found me."
"Who was she?"
"You'd probably like her. She's the Goddess of Knowledge, Verona. She's always looking to expand her knowledge and if she learns of someone with the ability to learn all schools of magic simultaneously she'll be over the moon."
"She doesn't know?"
"No, your mother was of an ancient race with a very long lifespan but I don't know what she is exactly. She asked that I keep it a secret from others." I nod and feel disappointed. "Anyway Eric it's time for you to go." She gestures to my legs and looking down I see them fading away in a bright light. "Don't worry, that's just your souls projection, I'll tell you more later but this just means that your soul cant keep this up any longer." I nod and thank her before I wake up.
