The Only Thing Available

We walk in silence for a few minutes. Myla and Hino know what a mini hydra is but I don't. I figure that there must be a bestiary or something for Lyna. I hope Asami is having fun, and not regretting becoming my guilds secretary. And I'm glad I left Luna behind because if we leave and call for help she'd have been pissed. I'm about to ask what a mini hydra has in terms of strength and weaknesses but Hino motions for us to stop. We do so and crouch down again and see about 100 feet in front of us a small three headed creature. Its about as tall as my shoulders and walks on all fours. From its heads to its tail its probably about 10 feet long. Its skin is purple and all three heads are eating a separate Fishman. I use Observe on it.

"That's interesting." I think aloud.

"What is?" Hino asks turning to face me.

"It's injured, Observe shows it's health and it's a bit below half. It also has a bit more than a quarter mana." I answer her. "And it's Title says it's a baby. Will this grow up?" I ask concerned.

"Really? And we don't know. There are theories that a Mini Hydra is a baby hydra but we've never waited to find out." Myla answers. "So if it's at half health should we fight?"

"It is weak to thunder as well. But even at half it still has about five times as much as the Fishman." I add causing Hino and Myla to stop, look at the hydra and think it over.

"Eric, how close do we need to be in order to enter your Domain with you?" Hino asks turning to me.

"I'm not sure, but the first time I brought you guys, we were about six feet away, at opposite ends of the table." I answer her, remembering when I first brought her and her parents to my Domain.

"Okay, I'm in. What about you two?" Hino asks turning toward us.

"Of course!" Myla says smiling.

"Same, and am I good to let loose with my magic?" I ask, and Hino and Myla both nod.

"Of course, we cant hold back against this." Myla says.

"So, do either of you know about any other weaknesses?" I ask them.

"Yeah, although it's not a weakness really. If we can surprise the three heads simultaneously then the body will shut down or freeze for a few moments." Hino says. "So lets sneak up on it and try attacking all three at once." Myla nods but I have another idea.

"Hang on, you remember that slash attack I used on the Golden Devil? It'll put me down to about half but I can use that to surprise its three heads from a distance and take away a little over half its remaining health." I tell them, causing them to go wide eyed.

"Really!?" Myla asks shocked.

"Yeah, but it'll still have about twice as much as a Fishman and I'll be down to half mana. Ancient Beast magic is powerful but uses a lot of mana." I explain.

"Okay, lets go with that, if you can though, try not to use to much more. We only have a few healing scrolls and I'd rather have you use your healing magic." Hino says and I nod back. We slowly start to sneak up on the Mini Hydra, who's still eating the three Fishman. Once we're about 20 feet away Hino grabs my shoulder. I look at her and she points to the tree next to us. I look up at it and see it has a branch practically above the beast. I nod back and she gives me a boost to its lower branches. I take my time using Stealth to quietly climb up the tree. After about ten stressful minutes I get to the right branch. I line up right as the beast finishes eating. I take a deep breath before jumping off and casting Ancient Beastial Slash at its three heads.

I land splashing the water and turn, seeing both Hino and Myla running out of the bushes they hid in. I see the Mini Hydra's body twitching and shaking, its body covered in cuts and a few arrows from hunting the Fishman. I slash down on its side and see out if the corner of my eye Hino and Myla do the same.

I Multicast Thunder on it before backing off, seeing it's tail start moving.

It swings its tail at the girls and I hear Myla shout. I try to see what's going on but the Hydra has stood, now going past my head. I see Myla suddenly go sliding along the water. Using Observe I see she's taken 123 damage. I rush forward and try to attack again but jump back when one of its heads lunges to bite me. I see Hino try and fail to attack as two heads attack her. Fortunately she managed to dodge them both, however barely. I see Myla standing up and rush it, trying to create an opening for her. Two of it's heads lunge at me and I see the third go after Hino. I dodge the first but the second bites down on my hand.

It starts thrashing and I raise my katana, blade pointing down. I push it deep into its head and it goes limp.

Thank fuck I have theses claws. It would've torn my arm off if I hadn't. I think pulling away, in time to dodge another head and see Myla cut deep along it's neck. Unfortunately it's not enough to cut it off.

It lunges its Injured head at Myla to headbutt her. She notices to late. I Multicast one Mana Shield and two Healing Hands on her.

She gets knocked back again an Hino jumps over its second head and kicks right above the cut Myla made.

Her kick tears it's head off. The beasts last head roars out in either anger or desperation to seem intimidating. I jump above it's tail, hearing it running across the water. I land next to its back and slash down on its ass.

The beast roars one last time before collapsing and breathing its last breath.

The three of us stay still until the Mini Hydra's body goes limp. Once it does we all let out a sigh of relief. I walk forward and store the item in my inventory before going back to the girls.
