Into Battle: Page 2

Serath's POV

I felt the Dragon lord's power surround me, filling me with strength. Those petty mages had no idea what they were fighting.

I flexed my muscles, straining the chains until they shattered.

"Now you will taste the fury of the Dracolich!"

The woman with the mace ran at me, but with my power boost, she was practically moving in slow motion. I easily dodged her swing and gave her a solid kick to the ribs when she turned around. She crumpled like a sack of potatoes. I resisted the urge to pummel her more since there were still those annoying mages to deal with.

One with a spear, two with guns. The leader, a tiefling, ran towards me. I closed to distance between us and swatted his little pea shooter out of his hands. I grabbed him by the throat and lifted him into the air. His hands pulled at mine, but he couldn't match my strength. Master wanted them alive, but he didn't need them conscious.

From the corner of my eye, I saw a glint of metal. I turned, seeing a red and black spear flying towards me. My free hand automatically reached out and grabbed the shaft. The metal seemed to soften in my hand, like it was melting. The material wrapped around my hand, turning into some kind of gauntlet. I tried to move my hand, but the gauntlet held my arm still. I tossed the barely conscious tiefling aside, focusing on the boy.

"What is this?!"

The little nuisance dared to smirk at me.

"A friend of mine."

I charged toward him, but he vanished before my fist could flatten his head. From behind, he hit me with a pair of those magic blasts.

"Lexi, now!"

I turned to see the elf girl throw a glass jar of black liquid to the ground at my feet. The jar shattered, and black ooze erupted out, covering my legs. It was thick and sticky, like tar, and it glued my feet to the ground.

While I fought to move, The boy started muttering a spell, and a dark cloud filled the air around me. I could breathe normally, but I was blind.

"Pathetic mage! Where are you?!"

"I'm right here."

I heard his voice behind me, and swung at him, only to hit nothing. He hit me with another pair of magic bolts, almost knocking me off my feet. I lunged at the source of the attack but he was gone. Another pair of magical attacks battered me from the side. I staggered slightly.

I focused my energy in my legs, and with every ounce of strength, I leaped in the direction of the attacks. I collided with him, taking the both of us to the ground. I got to my feet and yanked that annoying gauntlet off of my arm.

"You'll pay for that, boy."

He smirked at me from the ground.

"Nope. But you sure are."

A moment later, I heard the screech of wheels and turned in time to see a truck speeding toward me. It hit me like, well, a truck, and slammed me into a stone pillar. My visual went black, and the last thing I felt was the warm metal of the hood against my face.
