Business before pleasure

“It’s about my father” you opened with, deciding to be straightforward with her as you continued but giving her the option of getting out of this for the moment.

“I know you just mentioned spending some time with my Mom tomorrow so I wanted to give you the option of not listening to this at the moment if you wanted to remain oblivious. We could still tell you on Friday if you are concerned but…” you offered.

“No I think I need to hear this if the two of you are sitting me down” Grace said, cutting you off before you rambled any further.

A quick look to Emma and she nodded her head for you to carry on, taking a deep breath before you told your story.

“So as you know, I’m already aware of what my father has done in the past and while I hate his guts, I’ll tolerate him being in the house if that's what Mom wants. But as a precaution, before he left on Sunday, I hid a tracker on his car to keep an eye on where he may be going. I know it might have been a bit of a breach of privacy but in hindsight I think I was right to do it.” you explained, getting a dubious look from Grace when you admitted what you had done.

“Have you told anyone about this?” Grace asked, getting worried for your sake.

“No, only Emma and now you. So the tracker itself would only show where the car went and not where my father would be but from what we’ve gathered he hasn’t been anywhere near his job and has been in a town a couple dozen miles away ever since he left here” you concluded, waiting for Grace’s next question.

“And that’s where you want to go over the weekend?” Grace asked, having put two and two together about the trip you were planning.

“Correct. It's not something I think is feasible in just one night but I also don’t think it will take the full weekend either. We do actually want to have some fun on the trip but the main reason for going there specifically is him. Also…the place itself that we have narrowed his location to is sort of like a family suburban area. Not a hotel or an apartment. It's somewhere you wouldn’t expect a married man to be living on his own…” you replied, letting Grace know basically everything minus the KDK involvement.

Grace caught on once again and realised what you were insinuating about where he was living. She didn’t have any questions straight away and looked to be thinking to herself for a few moments before staring right into your eyes, trying to get a hint for you with her next question.

“So what do you plan to do if you find what you are expecting?” Grace questioned, keeping her eyes fixed on your own.

“I… Haven’t figured that out yet. I want to say I’ll do nothing and just use it as evidence to help my Mom but saying I’ll do something and actually doing it are two separate things. It's one of the big reasons I want you to come along with us actually” you replied truthfully.

You had gone over again and again all the different scenarios that you could possibly come up with about what you were going to find. Some ranging from most likely to downright impossible but you still gave it more thought than it most certainly needed. In all of those scenarios though, you saw no good reason for him to be lying like this and if you hadn’t already given up on ever having a good relationship with him, this would have certainly been the last nail in the coffin.

Grace was still looking in your direction when you realised you had lost track of your thoughts but she didn’t look angry or upset at you, just slightly worried that you were going to get yourself in trouble.

“I don’t agree with the methods you’ve used so far… but given his history, I can’t exactly blame you for doing this either… You were right that this might make things awkward when I see Mary tomorrow as well” Grace said with a smirk, turning to look at Emma for her input.

“And you're okay with this as well?” Grace asked, hoping her daughter was going to be on her side.

“Well if I was in Max’s shoes I think he should find him and… and kick him in the nuts! Serves him right for treating Mary like that” Emma replied, her anger making her a lot less level-headed than you were.

Grace looked shocked at Emma’s reaction but she didn’t say anything to contradict her, just seemingly concerned that her ally in this was leaning a lot further to your side than she expected. Emma continued looking mad while Grace was **** to let out a long sigh when she was outnumbered, turning her attention back to you.

“...Fine, you can go away this weekend but I’m gonna be with you for every second of it, so don’t even think of trying anything without getting permission from me first. That includes you as well missy. No funny business!” Grace warned, making you immediately nod your head now that she had made her point but you could see that Emma wasn’t looking happy with the constant supervision.

Still, she had no room to negotiate at the moment and reluctantly nodded her head in agreement alongside you, with Grace slightly relaxing now that you had both agreed to her terms.

“Good, now after that I think it's time for us to start heading off to school…Let me go get my coat” Grace answers, taking a quick glance outside at the rain before she heads upstairs.

That left just you and Emma now alone together again and despite her earlier unhappy expression, that instantly changed when Grace left the room.

“Can you believe she said she was gonna be with us the whole time?! This is gonna be so fun if we can get her to be a bit more open. How much longer until her next level up?” Emma asked excitedly, making you pull out your phone to check.

With the workout session where Grace kept putting her hands on you leading up to your make-out session, and the shower that came after that, you had made significant progress to her going up a level but you still felt you were too far away to change this today. It did make you look back in hindsight to see that she would already be at level 3 if you would have used it already but staying firm and using it with Rebecca was still for the best.

Now that the limit breaker was on your mind, it occurred to you that Emma was still unaware of the perk’s existence, a thought that you quickly rectified, bringing up the details for Emma to look at on your phone.
