Close Victory

You and Bulbasaur somehow manage to defeat Blue’s Squirtle. Frustrated with his defeat Blue reluctantly pays you the prize money, “Don’t get full of yourself Rory, you only won because you got lucky and my Squirtle must have been tired from our battle earlier” Blue claims. “Just you wait, next time will be different, I’ll show you how tough a real trainer is” he says before angrily storming out of the lab. While you didn’t completely understand how you won, you decide that trying to figure out how you were able to pull it off you put it behind you as a stroke of luck.

You turn to Amber, who for some reason is amazed that you were able to beat Blue. “That was incredible! How did you beat him Rory? I didn’t even come close to beating that jackass, what’s the trick?” Amber blurts out dying to know what she’s doing wrong so that she has a better chance at beating Blue next time she battles him.

“To be honest, I think I just got lucky thats all,” you answer nervously. When you actually reflect on your battle you had battled the same as Blue had, but for some reason that you were unable to comprehend Squirtle was unable to battle much faster than Bulbasaur would have fainted at the rate it was taking damage.

“Just luck?” Amber gasps, not wanting to rely on luck to defeat Blue. She thinks for a moment, “There’s got to be something to it” she pauses and raises her poke ball, “lets have a battle, that will determine if the difference between us is luck or skill.”

You don’t see the harm in battling her, worst case scenario you just lose to her which would at least restore some of her confidence. You accept her challenge and she runs across the room to get in position.

“Alright, go Charmander!” She yells as she throws the ball and the battle begins.
