What if Palpatine had been defeated by Mace Windu?

Anakin stormed into the Chancellor's office and saw Master Windu standing before the Chancellor with his lightsaber activated, who had just shot lightning from his hands.

"He is the Sith Lord, Anakin!" Master Windu roared at him. Anakin, however, hesitated to come to his aid. The Chancellor had revealed to him a way to save his wife. But he was a Sith Lord. That did not make him trustworthy. Everything in him strove and yet he drew his lightsaber and activated it. In one leap he had jumped over the desk and stood behind the chancellor, pointing the blade directly at him. He had made his choice. The chancellor turned to him in panic when he realized that his plan of many years had failed.

Almost at the same moment, Mace Windu's lightsaber sliced through his neck and decapitated him in one swift swing. Anakin could see the only hope of saving his padme die before his eyes. However, he also felt relieved all at once.

"You did well Anakin. You chose the right path." Windu said to him and deactivated the saber.

"Why do I think you were doubting me, Master Windu?" asked Anakin, leaving his saber activated before he deactivated it finally after some time.

"I confess that up until now I had doubts about you. You and the Chancellor have been close in the past few years. I feared he might have drawn you to the dark side." Said the Jedi Master calmly, and Anakin nodded.

"He deceived me as much as he deceived you, Master. Do not forget that it was I who brought him to your attention. I am a Jedi."

Master Windu smiled for the first time since Anakin knew him. "That is correct, my friend. And I will personally see to it that you take your place on the Jedi Council, as is your right. It was your wisdom and your ability to abide by the Jedi Code that ended this war."

"The war is not over." Said Anakin calmly. "He simply must have trusted confidants."

"you're right. Who do you trust?"

"Senator Amidala, Obi Wan, and Cpt. Rex." He said without hesitation. "Do you want me to get them to help us with a search?

Windu just nodded and unobtrusively had his own clone troopers come into the Senate building. Shortly thereafter, Anakin personal 501st Legion joined them as well. Likewise, Senator Amidala appeared with a contingent of soldiers from Naboo.

Hours later, the Senate was once again free of Sith influence. Some of the senators had been loyal to the chancellor and had committed treason at his side. The worst realization, however, was what the Chancellor had actually planned and how close he had come to fulfilling his plan.

Plans for a secret mega weapon called the **** Star were found with enough firepower to destroy a planet. Also an old secret project was found that was part of the clone army. It was Palpatine who initiated the creation of the clones. He had left a secret command in each clone that, upon a keyword, would cause them to attack any Jedi.

Weeks later, the Separatists surrendered and submitted to Senate control. The clones were freed from the programs and resumed their activities alongside the Jedi.

Anakin stood on the balcony of the temple and looked out over Corusant. He could clearly feel that all these events had changed him. He had learned about the dark side of the **** and felt its lure, yet he had remained loyal to the path of the Jedi. He felt good. He felt at peace with himself. For the first time he felt that his future was good. The nightmares about the **** of his wife had disappeared with Palpatine's ****. No one knew they were married and he was seen as the hero of this war. Even though the Jedi didn't need that, he felt good that he finally got the recognition he deserved.

However, the **** of Palpatine had not solved all the problems. The Jedi were shaken to the core that they had been unable to see through such plans and that they had been led around by the nose for so long. Anakin could feel it clearly. The Grand Masters had lost their self-confidence, some even talked about the need for a new way. One in which the dark and the light side would have to be united.

What Anakin didn't know was that some of the Jedi had already secretly left the path of the Light Side. They explored their new desires and tried to create a balance between light and darkness.
